CHL Instructor Training Dates

Post by TXVTXR »

I am a Texas Police Officer and contemplating obtaining my CHL Instructor certificate. DPS used to post the dates of their CHL Instructor classes but the link has not been updated since 4-21-2010.

Ideas of pending dates for the Instructor course would be nice so as to plan to attend the class, so with that, does anyone have the dates of the upcoming classes as well as how long the application process is taking.

Thanks and stay safe all...

You start here: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra ... orinfo.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Do your online app, pay your $100 class fee, get your fingerprints done, mail it all in then WAIT. They will assign you a class (usually months in the future) I mailed my stuff in in February and I still haven't been assigned a class. Somebody else on this forum mailed her stuff in a few weeks before me and she was told she might be in the June class. June dates no idea until they notify you. I have called them multiple times and I get the same response: they have all they need from me and are waiting on me to be assigned a class.

It is kinda tough on people who need longer lead times to schedule time off from work. But, that's the way DPS is doing it now. They schedule a class when they have enough applicants to fill a class, and you get what you get.

One of Crossfire Training's new associates is in the same boat, just waiting to hear something.

This is the email I received from them on 2/27--basically-don't call us, we'll call you!

"This email is to let you know that I have received your application from the CHL Unit in Austin. I will be scheduling you for a class, and will email you whenever that happens…please do not call or email about what date you will attend class – I do not know at this point. We will be having a couple of classes in June 2012, and you will most likely be placed into one of those classes. We will be having an abbreviated course to offer at that same time, and if you are qualified – I will put you into that class. It will probably be a month or two before I am able to have a firm roster for upcoming classes – but I will email you as soon as I can. Thank you for your patience.

Thanks everyone for the responses....very user friendly process I see that they have...NOT. "rlol"

Sure makes it hard on those of us who need to schedule time off in advance, do not think my boss would appreciate me putting in for the whole month of June in anticipation to just get a few days out of it to attend the Instructor course. Oh well, such as it is guess I will postpone it until the future when maybe they go back to posting the Instructor training dates.

Thanks again all and stay safe...
