Shopping for Holsters

When you shop for a holster at a store do you take your pistol/revolver to "test" the fitting? Or do you buy a holster, take home, try it out, then return if need to?

I ask to try one of their guns, the same as mine, in the holster.

The only time I've used my own gun was in a little shop in Kansas, but they have open carry their and the guys in the store said I could try my own gun if I had it with me. It just so happened that it was on my hip at the time, so I try it out.

If it's a name brand manufacturer, I would test it at home, but I mail order most of my holsters anyhow.

Yes, if I buy one from the store or a gun show. First, I'll ask the owner if it's okay. My time is too valuable and gas is too expensive to have to make a second trip to return a holster that doesn't fit. If you don't feel comfortable trying it out in the store then take it out to your car and try it.

Most of the time I buy mail order and buy a holster custom fit to the particular gun. I buy from well known suppliers so I have confidence that the gun will fit properly. Whether or not you will like it is a different story. Since they are custom, you can't return them for a refund.
