:iagree: I would like to own a Big Green Egg. Too expensive for me. :cryin

I don't claim to be a "pro", but I do make some pretty good tasting food. Once, I actually had a guy tell me that I was "doing it wrong" because I was not using wood when I was making beer-can chicken. That didn't stop him from eating half a chicken and picking all of the meat off the bones and licking his fingers when he was finished.

Maybe we can start a thread on a less controversial topic ... like chili. :evil2:

You'd think that somebody that has a blog about grilling would do this too "rlol"

(Sorry, 74Novaman, you asked for that  )
Yep, I figured admitting to this mistake might earn me a bit of ribbing. ;-)

In my defense, I haven't blogged in a while (until today, when I finally updated).

I also worried about the cost the first time I saw one. I went looking for a traditional smoker/grill with the firebox on the side. When I went in the store the salesman asked if I needed any help and I asked to see the smokers. He said he would show me the last smoker/grill I would ever need. I went home and told my wife about it and mentioned I nearly choked on the price because I was looking for something in the $300-$400 range and the XL BGE that I liked was a little over $1k with the nest and all. She said, oh, that's not bad.

She was expecting me to tell her I wanted one of those $5k-$6k stainless steel monsters that's bigger than our real kitchen. So, I took her up to see it, she liked it, and we brought it home in the truck. Now, I wish I also had a medium. The XL is great for cooking when friends or family is over, but the medium would be good for just my wife, daughter, and me.

I had never made my own chili until just a couple of years ago. I bought a slow cooker, found a few recipes on the web that sounded real good, and tried them out. After finding one that can easily be tuned for hotness I've made that one several times now. I use ground beef and ground sausage and black beans among other things. Even my mom, who doesn't like black beans, really likes my chili even with the beans.

I keep meaning to enter our church's chili cook-off, but something has come up both years now.

Just be glad I'm not from Indiana. They put something that more closely resembles a very meaty spaghetti sauce on top of ... spaghetti and call it chili! :eek6

Exactly! That's why they have to call it "Texas Chili" as opposed to just Chili.

Have a friend who is from Louisiana. She puts corn and potatoes in her chili.

Tastes good...but it's no chili.
