New CHL Application

Post by mikey1969 »

Hi everyone ..... having used this site before i found t very useful with excellent advise from its members. I am starting my CHL application (non immigrant alien status) ......... can someone give me a simple point by point checklist that i should follow (in order) so that i make my application correctly . So far i have only completed the CHL course and would like to do the rest "on line" as much as possible.

Thanks in advance for your valuable advise guys and girls

Here is the recommended process:

1. Apply online with Texas DPS https://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/txapp/txdps/chl/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

2. Print your barcoded receipt with document checklist and the trace number

3. Schedule your fingerprinting apointment with L-1 Identity Solutions. You can schedule online https://tx.ibtfingerprint.com/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, or by calling 1-888-467-2080

4. Print your FAST PASS and bring to your fingerprint appointment.

5. Obtain 2 passport size photos. (Many L-1 locations provide this service. If yours does not, then Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, all take passport photos)
Place them in a sealed envelope on which is written "PHOTOS ENCLOSED" and print your name on it

6. Fill out the CHL-6 form. Available on the DPS website if not provided by the instructor.

7. Make sure you have all the documents listed on the document checklist sheet (the one with the barcode)

8. Mail your completed application package to:
Texas Department of Public Safety
Concealed Handgun Licensing Bureau, MSC 0245
PO Box 4087
Austin, TX 78773-0245

A good instructor would have covered this in class. A better instructor would have provided all these things for you

if you do them online, they do not need notarized, except possibly the form given by the instructor as proof of taking the class, however if it is needed to be notarized, the instructor would do that for you.

Online applications do not need any documents notarized.

If you choose to complete the application on paper, you have 2 affidavits that must be notarized.
