Question about carrying at church...

An instructor who attends our church offered a class for members of the church and donated the proceeds to the youth group. There were already about a dozen that had CHLs, and 15 members took the class. A congregation of about 300, we're pretty densely protected :) Our pastor encourages CHL holder's to carry.

My pastor is armed, I'm armed with 2 to 4 guns in church, a Deacon and retired LEO at my church convinced me to get my CHL years ago, when I carry more than 3 or 4 guns (I think 7 is the most I carried there) it's because some Deacons decided to go unarmed that Sunday due to clothing issues or weight gain, so I can toss them one. ... Several ladies are armed in my church too.

...years ago when CHL was new, we were told by our instructor that people would be shocked to learn how many pastors in NTex had gotten their CHLs...thrilled my little heart!!!

further down there is a section that reads

"(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply
if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06."

That's the actual law but what happens when you have a cop that didn't read the law. It's like having one beer when carrying. It's not illegal if you're not intoxicated but you're gambling the cop knows the law. That's why I tell everyone not to carry in church. It's better to err on the side of caution.

Poor advice as far as I'm concerned. With shooters looking for easy targets and high body counts churches should be considered a high priority for CC. If I could only carry one day a week it would be on Sunday.
As you said, it is the actual law. No grey area about it. I have a copy of the PDF on my phone, any question about and I show it to them. I've educated a number of LEOs over the last few years.

No more risk than CCing anywhere else. Arm yourself with knowledge and you have nothing to fear but fear itself.

There is NO risk in carry to church. 25% of the preachers I know carry. Anywhere there is a 30.06 you cannot carry. And YES there is a difference in that vs the alcohol. The definition for impairment is one of TWO components... .08% OR physical impairment. DPS expresses a belief you are impaired at first drink sufficiently to not carry. There is not such an area of judgement realm in regard to church carry. They are either posted or not. Not debating truth or lack of on that, but pointing out that there is a difference with that an church carry.

I think that is probably THE most commonly misunderstood things I answer regularly. Over 100 church shootings every year, and scores more in violence and damage not involving guns.
