The Daily Texan has issued an apology for publishing a cartoon about the Trayvon Martin case earlier this week. Most notably, the apology editorial mentions that the cartoonist, Stephanie Eisner, no longer works for the paper.
The cartoon, which can be viewed here, satirized the media’s rush to judgment on the possibility of the shooter, George Zimmerman, having racist motivations.

The "truthiness" of the cartoon wasn't the issue. I believe it was the term "colored boy," which is viewed as a racist throwback to the era of blatant discrimination.

Yes, completely consistent with the first true era of yellow journalism (wait, did it ever end?).RiverCity.45 wrote:The "truthiness" of the cartoon wasn't the issue. I believe it was the term "colored boy," which is viewed as a racist throwback to the era of blatant discrimination.
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

I think that the cartoon was very well done. Both the message and the artwork were done in a style consistant with the message. The similarities with Little Red Riding Hood and other "children's stories" is right on target.OldCannon wrote:Yes, completely consistent with the first true era of yellow journalism (wait, did it ever end?).RiverCity.45 wrote:The "truthiness" of the cartoon wasn't the issue. Based on their coverage of campus carry, I think they're more embarrassed about printing something honest than possibly offending someone.

The rest of quote violates forum rules but definitely applies to The Daily Texan [sic]
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

I don't think we can sensibly deny the impact of the statement "colored boy" in Texas.

And here is where I will add my now-boilerplate statement about despising the mainstream media and the so-called journalists that work for said media, churning out slanted propaganda on a daily, if not hourly, basis...

I can't see how the word "colored" can be seen as racist, when the NAACP (the biggest race baiters out there) are still using it.

Don't forget the United Negro College Fund but nobody else is allowed to say Negro any more.
