Yes, you're right. I should have said "Texas company." Here is some information on where they are currently made:

They are spec'd and made for SWFA, they purchased the name from Tasco, and it is not longer affiliated to the plant that made the original Tasco Super Sniper.

SWFA has actually changed the name to SSHD and has completely upgraded and spec'd a scope well beyond the original name and design. It's a completely different animal made in a completely different plant in Japan.

As far as the money, everyone who uses them completely agrees these scopes are well worth the asking price and more. They are very good scope worthy of consideration by anyone.

Many other well known scopes are made in the same plant to include Bushnell among others. However make no mistake, this is SWFAs spec and it is uncompromising.
Even so, there are no middlemen. You can't buy a SWFA scope at Cabelas, for instance. In any case, I swear by them. At pretty much every price point, their scopes beat the competition in quality....not to mention being built like tanks.

Hey, does anyone know anything about scopes?

I have a scope on my .308 bolt action I may be looking to sell, it is rated for semi autos. It's a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40mm - unless you are going to drag it through the mud it's a fine scope.

With that said.....I would sell it specifically to upgrade to a Vortex Viper PST with front focal plane. That is the in the $850-ish range and is quite honestly more scope than most people need - just something I want. Among other things, I would like FFP in a 6-24, I like matching reticle/turrets(less math in your head - and I'm not a professional sniper so I can't train for hours and hours each week), and I like the clarity the glass on the Vortex Viper line offers.
