Second Renewal question

Post by JimmyD »

Hi,

My current CHL expires in October of this year. I believe I can renew up to 6 months prior...so I'm just about at the time where I can renew. This will be my second renewal. From what I remember about the first renewal, I received a packet in the mail and then scheduled the class at that point.

Have things changed? Do I still need to wait for the packet or can I do part of it online? Any other changes I should know about?

Thanks!

Things have changed. You won't get a packet. You will just get a renewal notice in the mail, directing you to go online to complete your renewal application. You cannot go online until 6 months before your CHL expiration, but you should be right about there, so start looking for that letter in the mail.

Then, all you need is the class, and to mail in your completion certificate (CHL-100 form)

Thanks...do I have to wait for the notification? Is there a PIN or something that I will need or can I just complete the on line renewal without waiting for the notification?

Don't mean to hijack this thread. However, since topic is renewal...

In 2014 I'll be up for my 3rd renewal. Haven't been able to find any info of whether or not I need to take a renewal class (or) just do paperwork. Need to update fingerprints via electronic method at 3rd renewal??

I emailed DPS while back, however, no response from them on this...

Thanks,
Bill

Renewals do not need fingerprints, unless DPS requests them. And, we have not seen this happen since they made the change. Seems, if they accepted your prints the first time, they ought to still be good.

If this is your 3rd renewal, which means this is your 4th license, then you still have to apply online and send in the renewal fee. But, you will not be required to complete the renewal class.

To re-hijack this back on topic, do I need to wait for the notification in the mail before I can renew online? Does the notification contain any information that I will need before I can renew online?

Thanks!

Ok, thanks! Then, will there be a box to check in online application that it would be my 3rd renewal (or) will I be notified by DPS about this (or) ???

Thanks!
Yes you need to wait for the notice. The system will not accept your application until 6 months or less before your expiration date.

Thanks...I hit the 6 month mark about a week ago so I imagine I should be getting the notification soon.

I have had one renewal student that got a request for new prints, but she was the only one that has said anything to me about it.
