Husky Mix Needs Home :(

Post by snatchel »

Hey Forum,

I have some very good friends in the Arlington area that are going through some stuff, and must give up their family dog. He is a 4 year old Husky mix, weighing in about 90 lbs.

I know this dog very well, and can vouch that he is extremely obedient, gentle, loving, crate trained, and house trained. He has never bitten, and he is good with guests. When someone is at the door, he howls like a wolf.... I would take him if I had a bigger car than I do now... we are full with just a cat and 1 dog. LOL

How well trained is he? He sits, lays down, and stays in his portion of the house. They don't like him going upstairs or in the living room downstairs, and he avoids the areas without being told. He doesn't get on furniture. He doesn't chew shoes or anything else.
He is dog friendly, but i'm not sure about cats. I'll bet he wouldn't pay them any mind, but I can find out if it is a concern.

He is fixed, and up to date on all his vetting. He is an inside/outside dog... so he spends the majority of his time inside, and goes out for walks/potty. He does not roam. They actually let him out in the front yard to use the rest room unattended, and he doesn't leave the yard.

Anyway. They will provide crate, toys, etc. If you think you may like to meet him and take him, please contact me. This friend is an Arlington PD Officer, so I don't want to put his name/number out on the forum, but I will put you in touch with him!

I just ran this past the Chairwoman of the Board, and her only objection is that we are in the middle of trying to train some bad habits out of our own dog right now, otherwise we'd take him. She printed this out and is bringing it to our vet to see if they can help find him a home.

Awww, c'mon, TAM! This sounds like such a good dog, he could probably train your other dog FOR you!

Tell the amazingly pleasant woman that dogs learn best from another dog that is well behaved! Sorry Mrs. TAM, he is just such a sweet looking dog! I have 4 dogs (well 3 and the alien creature my oldest brought home) and MAR would scalp me for asking.

Best of luck on finding him a home!

I brought it up to her again. We have a vet coming out to our house to work on our dog's barking problem with us. If the vet OKs it, I'll take him. The only caveat, which I've explained to snatchel already, is that we are heading to Florida Saturday morning and won't be back until Thursday night, late, so our own dog is going to be staying at the PetSmart dog hotel while we're gone, and I can't take Theo until we get back. So we'll see.

Unfortunately, TAM will not be able to take Theo. He is still available to a good home! Jump on this y'all :) Someone on here needs a fluffy, sweet, teddy bear of a dog to keep their feet warm in the winter... and their feet coool.... in the.. summer. Yeah. Haha.

Oh I wish I could. I really do. But we are having some behavioral issues with our Trapper (aggressive territorial) which make him dangerous to our guests, and we had a veterinarian who specializes in dog behavior out to our house for consultation yesterday. I asked her if it would be OK to adopt Theo, and she said that while it would probably not affect Theo negatively, it would provide just enough additional chaos in our home to make training Trapper's bad behavior out of him very difficult to accomplish. So I can't take Theo if it means that I have to short-change Trapper's training.

Tend to your own first :cheers2: They say that a ill-behaved pup is a miserable one, and I wish Trapper a happy training period!

I'm not able to adopt the beautiful critter, but I can attest to one well-trained dog helping another dog "get in line" so to speak. We had my Dane's sister for awhile and they tended to act better together (picture 2 150+ pound Danes sitting, laying down, etc in unison), peer pressure maybe? :tiphat:

I wanted to bump this. I have a Husky-mix dog I rescued. He has made an excellent backyard dog.

Well, after visitin Dallas this weekend, my wife and I couldn't help but take Theo on as foster parents until we can find him a good home. We are moving at the end of May though, and our new landlord will only let us have one dog... so we desperately need to find him a place.

He is a litte confused right now, and I can tell he isn't used to this much activity. My wife and I are a busy couple.. we stay up late and are busy busy throughout the day. This makes Theo a little stressed I suppose...

Either way, he is getting along with our GSP fabulously, and I can tell Brody likes the company. I tested Theo first hand with cats... he is interested in a very stand off kind of way. He creeped up on the cat, gave one good smell, and decided that the cat really wasn't that interesting after all.

So, still available to a good home y'all!!
