I sympathize with the frustration. There is a LOT one can say about OIF and OEF deployments, and about whether you like the CINC or not. However, there's a BIG difference between grumbling in the mess hall and taking it to a public Facebook page.
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

while i dont think the millitary is a dictatorship. I dont see a ranking officer wanting a lower rank person telling them no even if the upper ranking person is wrong.

The last time I checked, the current military was an all volunteer arrangement. If someone has 9 years of service, he has had opportunities if dissatisfied, to say thank you for the training and then go away. You always follow the chain of command, and anyone graduating from basic knows that or he doesn't graduate.

IMHO, even if it had been a simple political statement, probably not much would have come from it. But he posted that he intended to disobey orders from the commander-in-chief. IOW he stated an intention to be insubordinate.

People can call the military whatever they want. To me it is a dictatorship. They own you. I was drafted in 1967, retired 1989. The DI’s favorite saying was; ”Uncle Sam Owns You, my Captain told me you are mine, if I tell you to jump you will not ask me how high or anything you will jump.”
In a class while in the Field Artillery (13E) the instructor stated “The United States Military is a dictatorship. It can only function as a dictatorship; it cannot be a democracy because it would fall apart. You cannot have a democratic form of government without a dictatorial military. They also told us about, and it is in the UCMJ, following lawful orders. An unlawful order would be: you are driving a buss loaded with people down a road with a 35mph limit, the senior person on the bus tells you to go faster. You don’t because that person is telling you to break the law. You still have to use your head, are there extenuating circumstances?
That aspect of the military did not change even after I changed specialties. As a digital communications repair tech/instructor it was the same. Even today you still sign papers stating that you will obey all laws governing your conduct while you are in the military.

While in the United States Military one is under: U. S. Law, the laws of whatever State/Country you are in, Uniform Code of Military Justice, and more. One could be under UN rules, or something else altogether.
