I'm at a loss to understand where a Pistol fit into the ceremony. It's been a few years since I was raised, but at no time was there a pistol used.AndyC wrote:Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,113 ... z1tZ1FnYV4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;A man was killed during a Masonic initiation ceremony when another member fired a gun loaded with real bullets instead of the expected blanks and shot him in the face, police said Tuesday.
A 76-year-old man alleged to have fired the shot was charged with manslaughter.
Words fail me.

Re: Man Shot & Killed During Masonic Initiation
IIRC, this particular lodge was doing something not prescribed in the normal ritual. They were going to do something to startle the man by firing a gun at him and then hitting something next to his head to make him think a bullet hit that. However, if that where the case then why were they even pointing the gun at the man and I thought he was supposed to be blindfolded anyway. If he were blindfolded it wouldn't matter which way the gun was pointed. Don't point a gun at someone unless you intend on killing them. Sorry, "stop" them. I couldn't be an actor. I don't think I would be able to point a gun at someone in a movie.

Same reason live ammo needs to stay out of the classroom.........
I recall another case where live ammo was fired during an "Old West" reenactment. IIRC the shooter was just sentenced.Eid had two guns — one with blanks and one with real bullets — and apparently pulled the wrong one out of his pocket and fired, shooting James in the face, the lieutenant said.

I really don't know what to say... It's beyond stupid.C-dub wrote:IIRC, this particular lodge was doing something not prescribed in the normal ritual. I've typed and retyped this response, and the line above pretty well sums up anything else I would have added.
Re: Man Shot & Killed During Masonic Initiation
Yeah, this is the one I was remembering. Happened back in 2004 and the shooter was 76 years old then. He had no intent to harm the man and had his permit since 1951 in New York. Even at 76 I'm not surprised at the sentence and even less so if the sentence was handed down just recently.

Even shooting blanks is dangerous. Some years ago a very handsome actor, whose name I have forgotten, was killed by blanks fired from a gun at his head, clowning around on the set or something.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

IIRC, the actor was Bruce Lee's son, or someone that was connected with a martial arts movie.JALLEN wrote:Even shooting blanks is dangerous. Some years ago a very handsome actor, whose name I have forgotten, was killed by blanks fired from a gun at his head, clowning around on the set or something.
Does this jog anyone's memory to zero in on the exact event?

While filming "The Crow" Brandon Lee was killed by a dummy bullet that was lodged in a pistol being shot into his abdomen by a blank that was subsequntly loaded.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:IIRC, the actor was Bruce Lee's son, or someone that was connected with a martial arts movie.JALLEN wrote:Even shooting blanks is dangerous. Also, Jon-Erik Hexum.

One of the scenes filmed that day called for Hexum's character to load blanks into a .44 Magnum handgun. When the scene did not play as the director wanted it to play in the master shot, there was a delay in filming. Hexum became restless and impatient during the delay and began playing around to lighten the mood. Apparently, he had unloaded all but one (blank) round, spun it, and in what would appear to be a game of Russian roulette, at 5:15 p.m., he put the revolver to his right temple and pulled the trigger.[

I've been on the receiving end of a blank before at 2 yards pointed at my chest. At that distance, it can knock you off balance if you aren't expecting it.
Re: Man Shot & Killed During Masonic Initiation
Never heard of such during a masonic ceremony....there are no guns allowed in lodge, at least in Texas anyway.
