Republican P & VP Candidates

Now, I have a problem, a big problem. I can deal with Romney's Mormonism. Christie, a Catholic (?), hails from one of the most anti- 2A states in the Union plus he ordered state flags at half staff for a junkie's funeral. I don't have a problem with Catholics either.
All of that aside, two rich yankees of questionable 2A beliefs in the Capitol at the same time is at least one yankee too many.

Tell me again why Willard, is the most "electable" candidate?
Two northern liberals on the ticket means that he is not serious about winning.

Re: Republican P & VP Candidates
Can someone please point me to the article that said Romney has officially chosen Chris Christie as his running mate? I follow a lot of politics but must have missed that one...and IMHO, the White House Occupier will NEVER be in the same realm with a pro-2A thought process.
Re: Republican P & VP Candidates
Can someone please explain to me why all the names being floated for VP are relative newcomers? 1st term governor-1st term senators? Haven't we learned anything?
I personally think it will be someone that hasn't even been mentioned

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell is another possibility. He's not a newcomer.

Re: Republican P & VP Candidates
It's a hasty assumption here that Romney's VP will be Chris Christie of NJ.
Romney has stated that he has about 15 potential candidates for his VP.
Marco Rubio of Florida is a strong possibility, and as far as 2A goes, you can't get more pro-2A
than Florida. Don't forget that our Florida 2A friends really got the CHL train out of the station,
and continue to have high numbers of CHL's.
He's also considering a Republican woman from New Hampshire. She is considered to be conservative,
but of course a New England Republican is not generally perceived to be conservative enough by Republicans
in the South/Southwest.
Although Romney was anti-2A as governor of Massachusetts, I think if he becomes Prez that the NRA will bring
him around to supporting 2A rights. Does anyone really think he would initiate any stupid programs like Fast and Furious?

Re: Republican P & VP Candidates
You have to remember, this is Christie talking, not Romney. I don't think Christie will be on the ticket. Here's why: the party already has the more moderate "east coast" part of the party vote sewed up with Romney running for POTUS. The party leadership is well aware that it needs to have a running mate who will appeal to the conservative base and the southern states, and that is what they are going to do. Despite his protests to the contrary, I'm pretty sure that Senator Marco Rubio can be convinced to run. Another possibility is Representative Alan West. Either would be an excellent choice. I don't know if West is on the short list, but certainly Rubio is. Another one who would likely be on the short list would be Representative Paul Ryan. The thing is, the party has a number of dynamic up and coming conservative young Turks who would have appeal to a large swath of voters. The only question is, are any of them are interested in the job?O.F.Fascist wrote:Tell me again why Willard, is the most "electable" candidate?
Two northern liberals on the ticket means that he is not serious about winning.
Harry Truman's predecessor as Vice President was Henry A. Wallace. Wallace was not popular with the Democrat party leadership because, Roosevelt's track record notwithstanding, party leaders considered Wallace to be too liberal. Go figure. Anyway, they knew that Roosevelt's health was failing and there was a significant chance that he might die in office during his fourth term and that his Vice President would become the new President. Leadership knew that Wallace was out of the question for the presidency. He had never been considered as anything more than a place-filler during Roosevelt's previous three terms, so the leaders outmaneuvered Wallace's attempt to keep his job and got Truman onto the ticket for two basic reasons: 1) he was known to be a New Deal loyalist and an effective Senator; and 2) while he would not overshadow Roosevelt in his role as VP, Truman was considered capable enough should the worst happen and Roosevelt die in office. On his way out of office, Wallace told Truman that "the Vice Presidency isn't worth a bucket of warm [urine]."
That has largely remained true. VPOTUS does get to cast tie-breaker votes in the Senate, and he gets assigned areas of responsibility by his President, according to the president's confidence in the man, but it takes a quietly strong and confident person to set aside his own ego to fill the VPOTUS shoes. Lots of VPs have been nothing more than place-fillers like Wallace, "hired" (so to speak) because the Constitution requires one. Some, like Joe Biden, are the reason that all sentient people pray for the good health of even a terrible president like Obama. I can't stand Obama, but the thought of a President Biden is terrifying because of the sheer magnitude of his incompetence and lack of intellectual firepower. The man is barely above vegetable grade. If he became President, it would be like handing a loaded 1911 to a monkey.....with the safety switched off. That is why I pray for Obama's health. Now Biden was chosen for the job for one reason, and one reason only.....Obama's massive ego would not be able to stand having a strong, confident, and intelligent VP. Having Biden on the ticket was their answer. In fact, democrats are talking about ditching Biden and getting Hillary Clinton to run for VPOTUS this time around because they know that Biden is a ridiculous figure. It'll never happen because Obama's ego can't take the competition.
So if Romney can get a running mate who is young and dynamic and smart AND conservative, he can easily defeat Obama. The Republican party has such people in it. Again, the only real question is whether any of them would be willing to set aside their near term political ambitions for the good of the country.

Allen West, anyone?

Don't worry about Romney and the 2A. He will do whatever he is told to do as long as he thinks it will get him the votes.
By anybody.

Re: Republican P & VP Candidates
Romney would NEVER pick Christie. That would be the most epically-disconnected-from-his-constituents decision ever. There's absolutely no "upside" to picking him.

+1 on West, but he's too outspoken to make the cut.
I'll bet our governor is one of the 17.

Re: Republican P & VP Candidates
Based on what I understand about Romney (in no specific order)
Highly likely: Mitch Daniels, Rob Portman, Paul Ryan, or Marco Rubio.
Possible, but unlikely: Condoleeza Rice, Bobby Jindal, or Kelly Ayotte
LOL No Way: Newt Gingrich (although expect to see him get a special appointment to revise the health care challenge), Christie
