...now that we have the particulars, it seems like the GF's the only one using her noggin here...lifestyle changes would be in order to insure happy endings...and demonstrate proper care for and concern for happiness of said GF...

Me too. I thought he meant his friend doesn't smoke cigarettes. I have friends who smoke cigars and I don't want them smoking inside my home. Outside on the patio is fine, especially in the Summer when it cuts down on mosquitos.VoiceofReason wrote:You are not the only one. Maybe the OP should have been a little more explicit. I would have to think about that long and hard myself. She might not want you to lose your CHL and end up with a record.WildBill wrote:That went way over my head.urnoodle wrote:By your statement, my assumption is that your friend is smoking something a little less legal. If my assumption is correct, then I would not blame her from wanting to keep your friend out of her home and trying to keep you away from him. It's less about the smoking and more about what could happen to you if you happened to be with your friend when he was caught in possession of an illegal substance.x007x wrote:Like i said earlier it was not cigs i was talking about.
If his friend is smoking crack or pot, or chasing the dragon, that's a different story. I had buddies in college who experimented with drugs but after I graduated I stopped hanging out with the ones who were still doing drugs. My freedom and my career are more important to me.

Part of growing up helped me to understand that life is simpler and has less drama when I avoid the "Iron Triangle". I don't do stupid things in stupid places with stupid people.
I have a frIend who has done a lot of volunteer work over the years helping ex-felons live in normal society without re-offending. His entire message can be summarized as avoiding the "Iron Triangle".
Grow up, please.

The girl is right in this situation. Drop the friend.

Smoking weed is a lot different than smoking cigarettes, and that changes things. One's opinion on the legal status is irrelevant because it is illegal by federal law. By the way, unless your friend is growing his own pot, most likey it is coming from Mexico.... and every dollar he spends on the stuff goes straight into the cartel pockets, who then use it to finance their war to keep the drug traficking lanes open.
Your policies of what may or may not be allowed in your car can be easily broken... Don't we use the term, "concealed is concealed," all the time? You ever get pulled over with any usable amount in the vehicle, regardless of whose pockets it is in, your likely going to wind up in trouble. If your friend stashes it and denies he knows about it, your in a bigger mess than you could imagine.
I'm not saying that you should bow to your gf's demand to quit hanging out with the guy, but maybe you should concider what she is saying...maybe there is something there.

Guns and your friend's smokes don't mix. If your friend is your friend he will stop the smokes for you.
Your GF is looking out for you.

If you value your CHL as much as you value your life, then you will be commited to avoiding trouble at all cost which includes your pot smoking friend. After all, you probably got your CHL so you could protect your life, if the need ever arises.
As much time and effort and $$$ it takes to get a CHL, I would never jeopardize my oppurtunity to keep it.

I am SO glad I am not 20 anymore!x007x wrote:I was okay with him not coming over, becuase I understand what shes thinking, but I could not leave a friend for a girl. Think of it in the long run; if I left my friend for her and then we break up. Thats not awkward going back to the friend..Umm yeah it didn't work out could we be friends again, lol..Knowing my friend, he would be irritated for a bit, but would still accept the friendship. She wants time to think if he is allowed. I said i'm okay with that, and im not pressuring her to say yes. I was telling her straight out do not ask me to leave me friend, and we talked. She said she would never do that, and not come between the friendship like that. I'm going to take her word for it.recaffeination wrote:I wouldn't do it. I would also delay the plans to move in together. Maybe that's just me but I don't do well with ultimatums if that's how someone "communicates" then it's not going to last. If it's a temporary condition then maybe some time apart will give her room to think

Re: Best friend over girlfriend????
I don't see the problem with sacraficing a "friend" for a "girl". They are both personal relationships in their own right.
Sometimes you have to sacrafice one personal relationship for another. Make a decision based on the best available information, stick with it, and deal with the fallout.

Re: Best friend over girlfriend????
My GF (now my wife of 22 yrs) was and still is my best friend. I would gladly have dropped any "friend" whose actions offended her for one simple reason, I love her more than life itself. If you don't feel this way about your GF you should run away from the relationship as fast as you can.
BTW, she is right about the "friend".

If friend is smoking dope, tell him bye.
If girlfriend has a problem with friend smoking tobacco, then if you love her meet her and friend 50/50 and put an ashtray for him on the porch.
If girlfriend has a problem with friend smoking dope, drop friend and marry girlfriend.
