Carroll Shelby, RIP.

Post by G.A. Heath »

A great Texan who can be described with word like Innovator, Army Aviator, Test Pilot, Racing Legend, Automotive Designer, Automotive Tuner, Chili Maestro, Childrens Charity Founder, and so many others passed away yesterday May 10th, 2012. I will keep his family in my prayers.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

:cheers2: A toast.!! To a life well lived. :cheers2:

I briefly met Mr. Shelby about 10 years ago at a classic Mustang race at VIR (Virginia International Raceway). Attended a banquet dinner for him and listened to him speak. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend a small bit of time with a living legend. I've got a photo somewhere, probably yellowed by now...

Godspeed Mr. Shelby. Thank you for the pure joy your work has brought to so many. :patriot:

An Icon is gone.... Some folks have a sports hero, some an astronaut they identified with, a musician, an actor....
Carroll Shelby and the cars he raced, designed, built...the way he lived his life...He was one of mine..... The body is gone, the legend lives on.

Wow. I haven't heard a thing about this on the news. I'm not particularly a fan of the Mustang, but he did some incredible work with them and other cars. RIP :txflag:

I was just able to capture a few photos of him as he passed by in Phoenix Arizona in January of 2006. When I mentioned to an 84 year old lady I was visiting with that night about my good fortune to see him. She replied "I know Carroll Shelby, he is a race car driver. I spent the day in the pits with him and his crew at an Elkhart Lake car race. He was very handsome. The next year, I went to Le Mans to see him race." She did not know about him building any cars, only a race car driver.

He was born in Leesburg, TX (east of Winnsboro) in East Texas.

IIRC he most recently lived somewhere in the Pittsburg/Daingerfield, Texas area.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

RIP to a great innovator, inventor, racer, and fellow car fanatic. I am not a mustang fan, but Shelby did more that build mustangs. He was and will always be a legend.
