Lead 45 ACP help

Post by teraph »

I started casting my own recently, and so far so good on the casting. But when I went to load them, I realized that I don't have any load data for a 230gr lead truncated cone in 45 ACP. I am currently using HP-38 for my fmj 9mm luger and 45 acp and I would like to know if I could use that for the lead that I have cast. Thanks in advance :tiphat:

Please view my post in that light that I am a new reloader.
I would start with the 230 LRN load data on Hodgdon.com.
For HP-38 that is listed as 4.3 grains.

I've been pushing my own cast 230 grn bullets with 4.3 of W231 for years and years. This is one bullet and caliber/load combination where I found faster is not always more accurate, however.

If you keep your eye open for a 200 gr mold, you'll get 15% more bullets from the same ingots, or a 185 gr mold will give you 24% more bullets from the same lead supply.

For example, 100 lbs of alloy will yield 3,043 bullets @ 230 gr, 3,500 bullets @ 200 gr, or 3,784 bullets at @185 gr.

I know some people want to shoot the same bullet weight as their carry ammo so they can match the same velocity and shoot with similar recoil POI/POA, etc. Other people are simply miserly when it comes to the alloy stash. I am the latter.

I just looked yesterday at "My Stash " of WW ingots thinking I need more but hard to come by any more..!!
They look all nice and "Perty " all stacked up in a row. :biggrinjester:
