Any regular roach spray, such as Raid, seems to work immediately with direct application.
Use of area insecticides may or may not affect them but it destroys their food supply. Unfortunately it also kills garter snakes and lizards, so that's a last resort for us.

Home Depot didn't have any UV lights (contrary to what the web site and their inventory computer said).

Spiders and scorpions are arachnids, not insects - you would need to use a chemical specifically for them.It seems like most spiders/scorpions are not affected by regular insectacides.

If you have a local mom and pop hardware store I'd give them a try. Mine has a wide selection of flashlights and pocket knives. I've heard (on teh Interwebz!) that burning hydrogen & oxygen results in a mostly ultraviolet flame, so, in a pinch...
