One week of events that made the news in the UK. A lot of these things sound pretty familiar. How far behind are we?

I had similar experiences in the 90s, though we were told at the time that there were lots of muggings (that rarely turned into murders) and lots of vandalism, especially in places like London, Manchester, Edinburg, and Dublin. When we were in Dublin there was a very heavy police presence and just about every shop door and window was fitted with steel shutters. We were advised to be careful and watch out for muggers.Heartland Patriot wrote:I couldn't even read it all. I was stationed in England back in the 1990s, leaving just after the Labour Party came to power. I traveled around the country quite a bit. My wife and I went to London and walked through so many different areas and weren't even worried a bit. A couple of buddies and I went on a sort of sightseeing trip/pub crawl there as well; the worst thing that happened was some guy who offered to sell us hash in Central London. We told him we were GIs and he went on his way. I scanned that article and most of it seemed completely out of character for the England I lived in for four years...I don't even know what to say, past my reminisces.![]()
