Noob questions - online application, fingerprints, etc.
Hello everyone - first time poster, long time lurker here...
So I've finally turned 21 and I've taken my CHL class.
I have completed the online application, had my fingerprints (and a picture) taken at a DPS facility here in Austin, went and got two 2"x2" passport photos at CVS, and I have my CHL-100 in my hand.
Now my questions are,
1. Should I be expecting a packet in the mail with further information? (ex. CHL-6 form) My father did his back in 2008 and he received a packet, put in the appropriate documents and sent it back to DPS.
2. They took my picture at the DPS facility when I had my fingerprints done. Does this mean that I still have to fill out and attach my photo to the CHL-6 form?
3. I never received a fingerprint card, just a piece of paper from "F.A.S.T" with some reference numbers. The paper does say "DPS CHL".
I just want to make sure I have all my bases covered, and I'm not sitting here waiting for a packet from DPS when all I have to do is just send off the paperwork I already have.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Noob questions - online application, fingerprints, etc.
The process has changed greatly since 2008. DPS does not send out packets.
You won't get a fingerprint card. Your prints are submited electronically. Nothing else you need to do there.
The photo taken by the fingerprinter is not the photo that will go on your CHL. That one is only taken to verify your identity, and goes with the fingerprint record.
Fill out your CHL-6. Put your photos in a small envelope on which you have written your name and "Photos Enclosed".
Put your CHL-6, CHL-100, photos, and barcoded receipt from your online app into an envelope and mail to DPS. The address is on the barcoded receipt page.

I cant seem to find that receipt. when I logged in to the chl portal, It just says that it is waiting on more from me, basically. How do I find that?Crossfire wrote:The process has changed greatly since 2008. DPS does not send out packets.

from the link that was posted:
Initial applications for first-time licensees:
Applicants for a NEW CHL (not a renewal), will be provided a checklist of any required supplemental documents (ex. CHL-100, fingerprints, photos, DD-214, criminal history disposition documents, etc.) that need to be provided. Since the application itself is completely online (except for supplemental docs that the applicant must provide) DPS will not be mailing anything to applicants.
I do not know what a DD-214 is.
I have done what the OP has done:
CHL class, CHL-100: done
online app: done
finger prints: done
pictures from CVS: done
Thank you for you patience!

aww ok. I've been looking on the DPS' site for a checklist and can not find one. It seems some have said that I need to send that in with my items.MoJo wrote:You must not be a veteran. After you did your online application, you should have received an email with the checklist and barcode.

My status page still looks like this. With the holiday this past Monday, I expected it to be a while before the status has changed. How long should I expect it to be this way?
Thanks.

It seems to be taking about two weeks for them to acknowledge receipt, from there it could be anywhere from two weeks to two months! Do alot of reading and practicing carrying at home while you are waiting.xmolanlabex wrote:I sent in all of my my paperwork as of last Wednesday, DPS received the information on 05/24 (stamped by the DPS receptionist on my certified return receipt).TeXJ wrote:

Status is now listed, nearly 2 weeks later.
The wait continues!
