U.S. Preventive Services Task Force

Post by MasterOfNone »

Since all the promises were made of Obamacare reducing the cost of healthcare, does it seem like every recommendation from the government has been for less preventative care? Having already recommended starting mammograms later and advising against PSA testing, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force are recommending that older women don't take vitamin D and calcium supplements.
It is possible that the health care industry has promoted certain tests for profit reasons, but it seems a bit coincidental that these recommendations for less care are coming now.
Has anyone seen any recommendations for increased care lately?

They don't want older women to take Vitamin D or calcium? But those things help prevent or slow bone loss leading to osteoporosis, which women are more susceptible to suffering from...

They may have used their Alinsky methods to make fun of those who foresaw this sort of thing and issued warnings, deriding it as crazies talking about "death panels"...but this would be how they would start such a thing. They always start small and work their way up. Gun control is done the same way. One recommendation or regulation at a time...

My mother-in-law takes vitamin D and calcium daily and has for years.

Back in January this year, my wife and I had the misfortune of watching her mother take a fall in front of her parent's condo building. We were watching them come into the building via closed-circuit tv and she slipped on the wet ground, fell backwards and smacked her head on the pavement. After a trip to the ER, she left with a couple staples in her head. No broken bones. She is 84 years old and credits her 'doctor recommended' daily vitamin D and calcium. Heck even I'm taking vitamin C and D after that episode.
