Austin Restaurant recommendations, please?

Post by RHenriksen »

I've been to South Congress Cafe a couple of times, and loved it. But want to branch out - can anyone offer a name or two of other centrally located dinner spots, at or below the South Congress Cafe price range?

TIA!

We kinda' like Ruth's Chris Steak House when someone else is buying. When we're footin' the tab, we look for a POPEYE'S...for real.

I have never dined at Ruth's Chris Steak House. Even when I was in Austin on a business trip it seemed to expensive for my expense account. I dined at Pappadeux instead.

We've dined in a couple of Ruth's in South Florida back when I was somebody AND when somebody else was picking up the tab. We thought the fare was good, but not as good as Ruth thought it was.

When I was doing what was then Enron Field, Mrs. Oldgringo would sometimes flee the Pineywoods and come down to Houston. Pappadeaux's was a favorite mid-afternoon weekend eating place.

Too bad Katz's Deli and Bar is closed. Their corned beef sandwiches and I had a serious relationship going on. You might try the Iron Cactus @ 6th and Trinity. Pretty good Northern Mexico food (as opposed to Tex-Mex) and a killer Margarita.
