Optics Planet and Products

Post by 1s1k52 »

I could not find a better deal anywhere else so I rolled the dice. I payed for it Tuesday morning and both items arrived at 1:00 pm today or so. I was kept in the loop the whole time. I know they have a bad rep but from what I have gathered anyway website is capable of making mistakes etc. I am returning something so I will add to that part later.

The guy on the phone was pretty helpful and guessed about what time it would arrive. He was early by a day.

The Desantis Tuck This II. Is basically a more expensive tuck-able uncle mikes holster. I wasn't expecting much. This clip is a J- hook that needs bent out a little to accommodate the belt thickness regardless of the belt. The retention is fair for a package that says "fits most 4" semi-automatics". I can hold it upside down and it takes a second or 2 to fall out. The fact it can fall out needless to say removes it from ever being a primary holster. It can be drawn from and holstered with one hand. I can't comment much on the "tuckability" because its my first tuckable holster.

The Desantis Garrison Belt that I paid a whopping 16.99 for got me less than that. First off all, either Optics Planet messed up, Desantis needs to learn to measure belts, or I have become more fat then I know. The belt is labled 36" with what looks to not be Optics Planet labeling and is not even a 32. Econoline? try cheaper than anything you can imagine. The belt is plastic not leather. I may not know a lot about anything but I know leather and if this belt has any leather it is less than 5%. My wife actually thought it was a gag gift of some kind thats how cheap it feels. Forget supporting a gun with this thing, let alone holding up your pants. I would take pictures or a video but I was home less than 30 minutes before it was in the box WITH the RMA on it.

I can get a better belt from Ross at half that price almost so I will put it towards something else.

It is not uncommon for a gun to fall out of an IWB holster being held in your hand. When actually worn IWB, the pressure of the belt holds the gun in securely. That is not something I would worry about with that holster.

I never had any problems with Optics Planet. On the other hand, I never had an order without problems from Botach.

Thats good to hear. Like I said I think it is hit or miss with any website. I really can't say the same for sportsmanguide.com I called a few times and got the same treatment all around. I am was nice and understanding with everyone I spoke with but the first lady. Even after calling the 6th person to kindly tell them breaking up my less than 80.00 refund into 4 payments was ridiculous. I went the extra step to tell the lady on the phone my issue was not with her because I could sense her "deer in headlights" tone.

I did call desantis and kindly inform them I was "fine" with the holster, but if they would like to stay in business they should strongly think about removing this belt from their "gun belt" list. I used to be someone that never complained or did reviews. Unless they were good reviews. Then I kind of thought about the fact maybe someone needed a realistic description on things. So I try and chip in without bantering.

I still haven't even returned the darn thing. Been working to much as of late.

Alrighty here is a little update. Shipped the belt back took about a week for a response. I told them not only was the gun belt not even a decent casual belt for just holding up your pants, but it was 6 inches to small. They refunded my shipping and for the belt and gave me 5% off. I thought that was pretty cool. I didn't even complain in a manner which constituted for a discount coupon. I was nice to the guy on the phone just politely told him what was up, told him I would shop again, thanked him and was about trying to say good bye. He stopped me and said he was putting in for them to check the sizing etc. I was cool with whatever so he confirmed my email. Today I got an email stating it is "stamped" 36" so keep in mind most manufatures run small. I guess I would have been ticked had they tried to explain to me I need to order a size 42 in Desantis belts? The belt was a 30" belt. I don't care what the sticker said. I measured the darn thing. Either way Ill do business again. I am not going to hold them accountable for someone elses merch.

As far as the holster. For appendix it is horrible. 4:30 it does just fine. The tuck is OK seeing as how it is my first tuckable holster and all. I will say this. I would not use anything smaller than a 1.5 belt. the desantis emblem sticks out over my 1 1/4. I still think a tuckable single C clip holster is what will make me the happiest.

Anyways just sharing.

My Tuck This 2s all had labels like "For Glock 26 and ..." or For XD 4" >>" (My Glock 26 and Glock 19 ones don't fit the XD ... trigger guard size varies in the different models)
I've worn Tuck This 2 every day for 3 years; it seems (to me) to work on hot sweaty days better than my Leather backed/hybrids

I wear it at 3:00 with a Glock 26, and a forward cant and a Glock 17 spare mag baseplate riding the belt top. I also add StickyBack Velcro on the J-clip to mate up with the Velcro on my CompTac Kydex reinforced belt.

IMHO best part of the holster is the invisible J hook instead of having 2 big plastic/metal clips on a belt, but that's just me.
and yes, 1-hand reholstering is good. I agree, they absolutely should widen the gap on that J hook, but I have pliers.

Uncle Mikes is a great holster to donate to Students for Concealed Carry for Empty Holster Protest days, (which is what I did last year with all mine from the 1980s-"Holster drawer") but I'd not wear one.

I think I ordered from Optics Planet twice, a $400 Olympus camera and I forgot what else, no problems that I recall

I got some C clips from Comptac, they fit my belt a bit tight on a hybrid holster which I no longer wear ... , I'm open to C clips if you run across a single C clip holster that works be sure to let me know

I order a lot of my duty holsters from Optics Planet because they are cheaper and shipping is amazing. I love how easy their website is to use and have never had a single complaint

That j-hook tore the heck out of my center console. Really mangled it over time.

Students for Concealed Carry for Empty Holster Protest days?? What it is this? I am required to write a paper for my government 2 class and I chose carry at school as my topics. I received an A for how I presented the topic. A's are very rare where I go and especially for me. I was pretty stocked. Maybe the dude is a card holder I don't know? So I will be doing research for it. I am mostly wanting to know because I want to get involved obviously. I am 1 out of 6 gun owners I know that support carry in schools and I rarely go to campus now.

I will let you know about a C-Clip. I emailed 3-4 "custom" holster makers and never got a response so? Have you heard of the Sky ops by Galco? it is just like everything else on the internet with mixed reviews.

I can't seem to move away comfortably away from appendix carry. I worry less about printing or shirt ride up. Plus when I get family hugs no one is slapping the darn thing. During summer I wear "tighter" t shirts thinner cooler material.

I hated the Sky ops holster for my 1911. It refused to stay connected to the belt and as for the holster itself, it felt kinda cheap and wasnt' very comfortable
