Couple of Questions...

What's up everyone,

I am new here and understand a lot of things about carrying a weapon. I am a very safe hunter, and have been so for over 10 years.

[*]At what point is it okay to draw a weapon and fire at someone? Gas station robbery, etc. I need to be 100% sure on these things ahead of time! Is there a document from DPS or something I can review to find these sort of FAQs?

[*]Is a Texas CHL registered to a user, for ONLY one weapon? Or do you get a license and can then carry and pistol?

If you qualify with a Semi-Auto (rather than a revolver), you can carry any pistol. I usually carry at least a couple. (Same reason I keep a spare tire in the car)

Very many accounts where you are justified in deadly force under chl law. Best thing to due is read the laws on DPS website, then if things are unclear they can be discussed. As far as what you can carry, if you did you shooting test with a revolver, then you can only carrya revolver. If you used a semi automatic you can carry a pistol or revolver. The limit to the amount of guns you can carry at one time is as many as you can conceal

Okay great, thanks for responding...

now... what if I feel that someone elses life is in danger, and not my own. As if a robber had a gun drawn on a clerk at a gas station and I were behind him.

Not a lawyer, but me personally may draw and fire depending on the situation. Also, if a gun is drawn and pointed at anyone I am around I will feel my life is in danger as well. Not smart to leave a witness

As with the others, welcome to the forum. I agree that the questions will normally be covered in your class coming up. Also, I agree with reading the laws.

When it comes to defense of a third person, the easiest way to understand this might be to imagine yourself as a police officer. These laws apply to them in the same manner they apply to you. So, if a police officer would be justified in shooting in that case, so would you. And, in general, think if the news reporters would start questioning the police shooting or would back up the officer. It will show you some of the questions you might need to consider. My personal opinion is that the media tends to have a very narrow view of self-defense, so if you think they would support you, it will generally be legal. If they would attack does not necessarily indicate an illegal shooting, but should give you an idea of the questions involved and how you would be treated.

As you read some of the threads on this board, you will see that there may be times we agree that a shooting would be legal and generally still be a bad idea. Look hard at some of those situation to think about what you would do. Advance consideration of situations is the best training you can get.

We never want anything like this to happen but just a couple other points. If the guy in front of you is threatening with lethal force and you choose in be involved, DO NOT attempt to 'wing' him. This will do two things. Firstly, it will tick him off and make him even more likely to to try to kill everyone and two, his attorney will sue you for the loss of the use of his hand or some such thing. Plan to put the bullet through behind his right ear so it exits through his left temple and that the line avoids anyone else in the line of fire, including the clerk or bank teller.
