Yep. Now we start gun shopping. Last night we watched faliaphotography videos, talked with a buddy, and googled a bunch of stuff. She tore up a paper plate @ 10 feet last night withh my G17, and did just as well with an LCP (which she hated becuse of the trigger.)

She shot the Glock really well, loved it, and wants one. Problem is she is going to have a hard time concealing a G19/17 on body, and the G26 was just a bit too snappy for her.

I am thinking a G19 for purse carry, and will continue researching other options for on-body carry. A single-stack 9mm is what she is looking at. Options:

Kahr K9
Kahr CM9
Walther PPS
Sig P250

Those are the 4 we will try first. Any recommendations on those?

I have a Sig P250 compact. If your wife has small hands she may have difficulty with pulling the trigger. The pull is long and my index finger barely reaches the trigger. If she can find one with a smaller frame it might work for her. I really like the weight of it and the recoil is minimal. I just don't shoot it often. I stick with my officer size 1911 and really love em.

I find the XD9SC is a great gun for me. No I am not a girl, but I do have small hands and am very thin. Easy to conceal, trigger pull is good, safties are automatic, and fits very well in my hand even with the shorter mag in. I shoot just as well with it as a full size gun.

Girls arent the only ones that carry the XD9sc. I have gone to it for my Sunday carry several months ago.

I came home several months ago to my wife asking how to get a gun license, right out of the blue. There had been a problem at Walmart that scared her to death. She is a smallish gal and had trouble with any 9mm but a P238 fit just right and offered the least resistance. It isn't worth having if you can't aim and hit the target. She can unload the P238 into a pattern the size of a coffee cup coaster.

I hesitate to say that's one reason I still have my Keltec P11. I got it used from a police chief (well used) it's basically a 13 round revolver when using the 12 round mag. I feel less snap/recoil than with my Glock 26, similar in size, but easier to pocket fit, with a revolver-ish trigger. I much prefer the P11 over a PF9 ... more backstrap surface area than the single stacks = less felt recoil to me, so I'm sure a newer shooter might like it .. The only thing I don't care for is I can't put Advantage tactical sights on it, though I'm accurate with the factory sights, I have to consider the single-handed operation aspect of every gun... plus ... P11 over a PF9 ...mo' rounds is better for newer shooters and people who shoot like a girl (hide me quickly... a national champion female rifle shooter lives near here; she shot better than all the boys )

I love my Kahr E9 (older sib to the K9, and from everything I can tell similar shooting characteristics). I also love my S&W M&P 9c, and my Sig P238. All are easy to shoot and relatively easy to conceal on my 5'4", 135 lb frame. Granted, I frequently go for purse carry, but I have carried on-body with these on some occasions.

Unless you have money to risk on buying a gun that doesn't fit, I also second the idea of letting her shoot before buying if possible. As you know, the way a particular gun shoots can be perceived as wonderful by one individual and ghastly by another. Only way for your wife to know for sure is to actually try them out.

Let her pick the gun. If you pick and its not right she will find excuses not to carry. If she picks than she owns it and will defend it.

I have a P-11 for EDC but this gun has a very bad trigger, and a lot of felt recoil.

My carry gun is a Kahr PM9 (about 95% of the time).

I have a PPS and am very fond of it. Happy to let people test drive it in Houston.

The M&P Shield looks like a high quality equivalent for a lot less money.

This morning at the range
My PF9 will be for sale as the recoil hurt my thumb bone joint in the web of my hand
HOWEVER
The similar in size same capacity Taurus PT709 was fun to shoot, no pain and little recoil
Baffling how two similar guns can be so different Prior to shooting the two I was pocket carrying the PF9 and thought I'd sell the PT709, now I'll carry the PT709 and never want to fire a PF9 again. The .45 XD45 was less punishing than the PF9 was.... for me.
