History Club Range Day

Post by snatchel »

So........ today in class we were having a discussion on gun control, the Aurora incident, etc. It saddened me to hear a bunch of West Texas kids talking about how after Aurora, they think that gun laws should be more strict.

One student claimed that, "assault rifles are dangerous." I asked this student to explain his reasoning, which he was unable to do. I then asked him if given the opportunity to shoot an AR (not an assault rifle), if he would. He of course said, "Heck yes I would! Those things are awesome.. just dangerous."

I came to the conclusion that most of these kids who oppose guns do so out of fear of the unknown. Most of them have never been to the range.... few have ever shot a gun period. It's a sad thing.

I also happen to be the President of our History Club at Angelo State University. With this seat comes the power to hold meetings, wherever I want. I'm thinking I might propose a "Range Meeting," in which all members of the club would be invited, would receive basic gun-handling lessons, and basic marksmanship training.

There are no school laws/student body laws preventing me from doing this. I think it would be educational for all, and more importantly, melt the fear that makes so many of these guys so ignorantly opposed to the 2nd Amendment.

Chime in. Tell me what y'all think. If any of y'all would want to volunteer time as a RO, let me know.

I think its a good idea, no I take that back what you have is a great idea. If I wasn't over 3 hours away I would provide the use of my FS2000 and some ammo as well as volunteer.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

I think that if you were to organize such a thing, I could be persuaded to participate, and I could bring along some toys and ammo. I would also be happy to provide (if you give me the number of attendees) a copy of this book to give away to each student:

This is not just an opportunity to take fear out of guns. It is also an opportunity to get young people to thinking in a new way about the meaning of the Constitution and our essential liberties. I would be proud to participate.

You have my number.

TAM, the fact that you'd be willing to make the drive down to help shows the kind of guy you are. I'll keep you updated on this....

I am thinking that this would be best sometime in Fall semester... maybe September. It will be on a Saturday for sure. I'll keep you posted, and thank!
