Like he would want to. I'd be gone if I were him. A country that would ask for that level of sacrifice of me required by the SAS (the British equivalent perhaps of our own Delta forces) and then jail me for having the means of protecting myself from the enemies I made while in that country's service is not the kind of country I would want to live in any longer.

Some parents say it is toy guns that make boys warlike. But give a boy a rubber duck and he will seize its neck like the butt of a pistol and shout "Bang!"......George Will

Absolutely. They're going to reach a time when there will be no more Brits willing to do things as tough as the SAS for a country that treats them like criminals. SAS puts men in the position of making enemies. For life. Enemies with long memories who are all to happy to perform a revenge killing. It is absolutely unreasonable to expect such men to have no protection from a firearm at hand when they are not active duty.

But then, Lesser Britain (formerly known as "Great" Britain) may not be worth defending any longer anyway. Pretty soon they'll have the liberals' dream: the return of the draft. Liberals hate a volunteer military of career professionals because they don't know how to deal with men and women who are their betters.

I imagine that this type of "offence" wasn't covered in his E&E training. what a crock.

Let him out of jail and send him over here the the U.S. where he will be appreciated for the hero he is.
He can stay at my place till he gets on his feet. Since he's SAS, he'd wouldn't need more than a weekend anyway : )

It is a pity that they cannot tolerate a person having a pistol and ammunition. :mad5

Isn't there some quote from "Alice in Wonderland" regarding the ironic sensibilities of the British government?

I can't remember it, but maybe one of you out there can supply it.

Yes sir, what they don't want to tolerate is a citizen defending him (or her) self. But what they will tolerate are thugs and other assorted bad guys initiating violence against others...quite acceptable to "The Crown" it would seem...

Actually, OUR boys are the equivalent of THEIR boys. The Brits have always been much more innovative than us when it comes to special operations forces, and we have copied their approach more than once. Delta was modeled along the lines of the SAS, and in WWII, we modeled our Ranger Battalions after their Commando's.

U.S. commanders never have embraced the concept of special operations the way the Brits did / do.

I give them credit for that.

Crazy to think that the same people who fought so stubbornly, and gave so many lives during WW I and WWII would one day lock up a trooper for simply possessing a handgun.

No justice in that. No sense.

I realize that. I was just trying to put "SAS" into general perspective for those who don't know what SAS is.

What a pity. You know I would love to visit Merry Olde England, Scotland and Wales. However I am afraid someone might attack me and I would be put in jail for the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I agree he can come to my house, we have an extra bedroom, he can stay there till he gets on his feet. Which I think would be a rather short stint.
