The intruders began kicking down the door when the homeowner fired several shots, APD spokesman John Chafee said. He said officers found two men shot,

third break-in suspect is on the loose.
A police helicopter was also flying overhead.

I wonder if he fired through the door or waited until the door broke?

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with a home invader needing shooting for either scenario. However, it is obviously more difficult to "know your target and beyond" if you are shooting through a door. Some might even call it reckless, which would make it an issue if a bystander got hit.

I recall an instance years ago; guy tried to break in, couldn't easily, so he left, Occupant shot through door, hit a kid playing in Courtyard of the Apartment complex.
