So my wife was given an old sword from around the early 1900's that belonged to her gr. gr. gr. gr grandfather. Only thing any of us can find out about him is he was in a ferternal group- Knights of malta. We took the sword to colletor firearms yesterday to see what they could tell us. absoluttly nothing. How ever I did look around cause I have never been there. I don't think I have ever seen so many guns in one place let alone the number of antiques. Awesome store to look around. Found an SKS I wanted, wish I had the money for it. They extremly low balled the value of the sword. Told me about $100.00 dollors, and would give me $75.00. Found the same sword in about the same condition priced at $255 in the store. Does anyone know where we can find more information. No one in the familey knows anything about him. Was told he may be english, but nobody knows for sure. Tried emailing the group in California, where we are from, and no responses.

As far as your experience at Collectors, it is normal for gun dealers to buy low and sell high. That's how they stay in business. That is one reason I like to deal with forum members. They have more reasonable expectations.

You said you found the same sword in the store for sale for $225. Since it's still sitting in the store means that nobody bought it so maybe $225 is too high. With unique items such as yours it hard to determine a good price. IMO, the price is determined by how much someone wants to pay for it.

Yeagh, I undererstand the whole buy as low as possible to sell as high as possible thing. Where I was more annoyed was the lie of the tru value of it. Although, now that we are trying to find out about who he was, we kinda have our own little treasure hunt.
