Houston Radio shack robbed - customers locked inside
at what point would you draw... or would you?
if i were being ordered into the back of a store by 3 masked men, i have to say, that would be the point i start fearing for my life.

Once again it is a situation where you have no idea how you are going to respond unless you are there living it. I must say though, if all 3 were displaying weapons, you are going to be very busy.

Take over style robbery where they lock the doors? First opportunity you attack them without hesitation viciously with no remorse and stop the threat. See the old guy in that internet cafe down in Florida. If you have a gun on you they will find it. They are not taking my gun.

I have to agree with C dub. When they start locking doors and herding patrons, it's time to consider action. And pray that both you and what you're carrying are up to the task.

This is a real tough decision to make.
Drawing as soon as you know what's going on might be the best option.
Engage early and often.
But consider the robbery videos that we've watched. Many times the robbers get
so involved in opening the register, or stealing cigarettes, that they lose focus on keeping
the customers in line. So if you think about that, you may wish to delay your draw until
their focus is elsewhere.
Since the robbers who get distracted can only be determined after the fact in store videos, my decision would probably
be to draw while none of the multiple BG's had their hands on my person yet, draw, sweep the safety
off, and start firing. While trying to stay on the move/getting off the dime.

Re: Houston Radio shack robbed - customers locked inside
The time I had 2 robbers in the store and one had a gun to my head and the other across the store had his on the manager and cashier ... I suggested they lock us up; (they had no plan)
I'd do the same again; gets them close together; groups the good guys together and the bad guys together, no shooting was needed that time; they got $200.00; had they taken a more aggressive step; come inside with us into the room possibly to execute us etc, instead of closing the door and leaving ... that's fightin' time
every situation varies; having been robbed twice; I'd not say what someone should do or what I'll do next time.

Absolutely! That's why I say at the first opportunity. Early on they may and probably will have their attention on the people and that might not be the best time. Time will slow down but and that attention might only last for a couple of seconds. The first opportunity, in reality, might only be a few seconds after it begins. The longer they are in there the more they get a chance to think and that usually only leads to bad things. They already aren't the brightest bulb on the tree.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:This is a real tough decision to make.

Part of having a CHL is accepting that bad things can happen anywhere. That being said the part of this story that shocks me the most. Is that people still shop at radio shack. What next a woolsworth?

Hard to say for sure, but I only saw one of the three with a gun. In that instance, defenittly I would draw and fire at him first. The other two would most likley flee, or suffer the same fate

Hey! I resent that! Don't any of you guys still thinker with electronics (granted electronics and radio equipment is only 1/16 of the store now). Radio Shack was vital in building my home made attic mounted HDTV antenna. To buy the antenna Balun online would have cost $15 with shipping, only $4 to buy in the store.psijac wrote:Part of having a CHL is accepting that bad things can happen anywhere. That being said though, on topic now, don't a lot of us carry pocket guns with 6+1? 3 BGs all with guns. I don't like those odds. It makes me pause to think about my limited capacity and light caliber. There is nothing I can do about it at the moment as buying a better gun can't take priority over other expenses for now. I might at least start carrying a second magazine though.
Re: Houston Radio shack robbed - customers locked inside
This is sort of what I was alluding to when I wrote pray your equipment is up to the task. A mouse gun, wheel gun or even a 7+1 capacity 1911 against 3 BGs is not great odds. Of course a 15+1 Glock 19 isn't that much better when it is 3 on 1. Prioritize your targets and don't miss I suppose.knotquiteawake wrote: That being said though, on topic now, don't a lot of us carry pocket guns with 6+1? 3 BGs all with guns. Re: Houston Radio shack robbed - customers locked inside
agreed. i carry a 1911 compact and i'm in the middle of creating a new IWB holster that will store an extra mag right next to the pistol itself. i also only carry 7 rounds in mine, i guess to conserve the magazine spring tension... maybe i should start adding that extra round in there.SQLGeek wrote:This is sort of what I was alluding to when I wrote pray your equipment is up to the task.
