Can I keep my CHL if???

I live in Texas and have worked at TDCJ for a few years. Texas DL and CHL. I also have property in Arkansas where my Moms family is from. (Ok, no Arkansas jokes! LOL) I've been solicited a couple of times from a family member to apply at with a actual LE agency in Arkansas where they work at now. The job offer is real tempting! The catch is to be LE in Arkansas you must be a Arkansas resident. I'm willing to change my license to AR to apply for the job but what about my CHL?? I won't be getting rid of my Texas residents but it may not be my primary if I get the job. Can I have a AR DL and a Texas CHL if I still own property in Texas. I know that if a get the position I'd be covered under H.R. 218 but if for some reason I don't I don't want to lose my CHL.

Any thoughts??

IANAL, but owning property doesn't determine your residency. It is determined by your intent and declaration which state is your domicile. If you move just change the address on your Texas CHL.

Ahh, ok! So I can switch from my CHL to a non-resident CHL then switch back later if needed? I was hoping I could just keep my Texas CHL unchanged since I'd still own property in Texas.

To be clear, all you'll need to do is change your TX CHL address to match your AR DL. That makes it a non-resident license. If you need to renew the TX CHL, you'll need to take the class in Texas. If you move back to Tx, change the address of your TX CHL back to Tx (with a Tx DL), and you have a resident license again.

i am in the same boat. Moving to colorado but i want to keep my texas chl. all i need to do is change my chl address and then apply for a colorado permit -- that will allow me to carry in both, correct?

Texas and Colorado already have reciprocity, so you can already carry in both with your Texas CHL. You do still need to change your address, though, and getting your Colorado license would be the right thing to do and cause less confusion if you ever have to show it to an officer.
