You should ask my son how dangerous these things are. According to the Lewisville ISD they are weapons. Around 14 years ago, while my son was in middle school in Flower Mound we received a call from the school that my son was in trouble for using a 'weapon'. Well, I dropped everything and raced to the school. When I arrived, I was met in the office/lobby by my son. Seems he was playing with a paper clip by bending it and it snapped out of his had and landed on the desk next to him. Trying not laugh I asked for the details. The teacher explained that the paper clips were attached to an assignment packet that all the students were given. She further indicated that she observed him playing with the paper clip and KNEW what would happen the way he was playing with it. After she finished the principle stated that my son was going to be suspended for playing with this weapon. In my mind I lost it! On the outside I calmly asked the principle if he was serious. He stated yes. I pointed to his desk and ask him if that container on his desk dangerous. Before he could answer, I stated that if they intended to suspend him, I would demand the teacher be fired for providing the weapon. The teacher nearly exploded and started to spew words that would embarrass a drunken sailor. I set there smiling at the principle as I pulled my digital recorder out of my suit pocket. Case closed and no 'bad mark on his permanent record'.

Fast forward five years. The principal's career followed my son when he attended Flower Mound HS. I only had to visit him once there for another fabricated problem. At first he did not remember the incident. However, as soon as he told me his decision was final and there was nothing I could do I pulled out my digital recorder once again and exclaimed that, "Unless I went to bed and woke-up in Communist China he was dead wrong". Once again here comes the back-pedal. This time, however, I demanded to talk to his supervisor. After a meeting with four members of the LISD executive staff we never had another issue.

I should note that I have a 3" fresh scar on my right forearm from a staple...but I figure I'll be OK...after years of therapy...

Rubber bands should probably be outlawed too...properly configured, a rubber band and a paper clip could probably put an eye out...I remember making some nasty dents in drywall with that little combo...

And the list will go on and on. I assume staplers are already outlawed as the not only are dangerous devices they are all high capacity dangerous devices.

In high school, I used to un-jam teachers' staplers with the same Victorinox knife I carry now (20+ years later). Today, I'd be in jail for sure.

You know if they just banned paper, which causes nasty cuts, everything would be fine. Wouldn't need to ban anything else.
