A couple approached a guy with

"He was like, 'Hey! I got a $50 Lowe's card I'll sell you for $20 cause we need gas and cigarettes. We're about to run out of gas,'" said Jerry, who asked that his last name not be used.

Don't fall for scams, people come up to you out of the blue, beware!

Carry everywhere you can legally people, this does not just happen in bad areas.

The .44 caliber bullet grazed Jerry's back and left a 2 inch scratch. It also hit the side of his truck and left a sizable dent.

Hmm, this sounds a little odd. A .44 if it only grazed the guy should have left a sizable HOLE in the truck.

That's in the middle of day, in public, in Kingwood. It can happen anywhere folks. Even in "safe" places where you "aren't expecting trouble."

So this guy can identify a .44 from the muzzle end that easily?

This is quite a common scam. People go into Lowe's, Home Depot, etc, and steal some stuff. Then they return it, claiming they lost their receipt, and they are issued a store credit card in the amount of the return. Then they go out into the parking lot or to a different store and try to sell the card for half it worth or even less. There are plenty of them on ebay and craigs list too, all essentially stolen property.

A couple of years ago I was getting out of my vehicle in front of my Home Depot and this guy wandered up and offered me a store card for $20.00. I turned him down and told him that I was an employee and I was turning him in to store security. I had my hand on my gun at the time, but I don't think he knew it, I was still in the process of unholstering to store it away for the day. He scurried off and jumped in a car with a companion, and they left the parking lot fast, but not before I got their tag number. I turned the information over to store security and was credited with helping bust a ring, not that that earned me anything. Store security was also able to identify them on the parking lot cameras, including a nice full face shot of both because they chose to exit by driving up to the front of the store instead of out the back of the lot.

This is one reason why I'm hesitant to buy things from both (CL for other reasons).
