edit: I'd say a severe failure of a thermostat.

Sure -- It was in the pot sitting the sink though some of it was used to put out fire...jocat54 wrote:Did you get any coffee?
That's what I would have expected but the current through the power cord was not even high enough to to warm it up so the circuit breaker didn't react. But it got hot enough to melt the pot metal in the heating area and ignite the plastic housing.Heartland Patriot wrote:Very surprising. Also, that it didn't blow a breaker or that a thermal snap switch didn't cut the circuit...glad you were able to get it put out, though.
That is in the works. They have already responded with an email saying they will send a shipping label to send the device to them for evaluation. Of course no other promises, but it's a reasonable start.Keith B wrote:That is a serious liability issue if they have defective thermostats that allow that to happen. I would contact the manufacturer about it and send them photos. If it ruined your counter-top they may be willing to pay for a replacement. I had a almost brand new refrigerator leak where the ice maker valve connects and Whirlpool paid to have my wood floor replaced.
I can't find any volunteers to plug it in..SQLGeek wrote:The left side looks OK still...glad it wasn't more serious!
I'm only a mile from work and they have coffee available all day long... I took advantage of it.anygunanywhere wrote:If you value your coffee the way I do you might be able to get some compensation for mental anguish at not having a sufficient amount of joe because of the massive mechanical/electrical failure and the gross negligemce of the manufacturer.

Reviving this old thread to say that the manufacturer came through big time. Last Tuesday I came home to find a new $119.00 coffee maker on my front porch and Friday we got a check for the full amount of our insurance deductible. The new counter top has been on order for more than a week. Between the two the damage is nearly fully covered. It's a lot more than I originally had hopes for. I'm sending a big thanks to the manufacturer.anygunanywhere wrote:If you value your coffee the way I do you might be able to get some compensation for mental anguish at not having a sufficient amount of joe because of the massive mechanical/electrical failure and the gross negligemce of the manufacturer.

What brand is it? I'm not a coffee drinker but I'd give the nod to other appliances made by them if I had to decide between them and a competitor.
