Hollywood wasn't as liberal back in the 80's.stroo wrote:I was surprised Hollywood made the first one. Am more surprised they made this one. Hope it lives up to the philosophy of the first one. If so, it will be a huge hit totally ignored by all the awards.

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

There is also, "Tomorrow, When the War Began" with the script adapted for Australia. Seven young Australians go on a weekend camping trip deep into the boonies.
They awake to see formations of military and cargo planes passing overhead only to return home to find their families rounded up "Red Dawn" style.
The invaders are nondescript Asians who attack Australia for the natural resources. Besides the aircraft, they invade using container ships and seize several ports.
Not RD quality but apparently good enough for a planned sequel.
Five showings on various Showtime channels from 8/13-8/20.

The primary Hollywood war movie in the 80s was anti-Vietnam War. Red Dawn didn't fit that mold at all. And I am old enough to remember Hollywood in the 80s. There were some old conservatives around but by and large they had about as much influence then as the few conservatives in Hollywood have today.
Hope this one at least tries to live up to the original.

Probably going to have to watch at least 3 chick-flicks in order for the missus to go to the movies and see this one with me...

You guys need to watch the movie "Idiocracy" which is a comedy back in 2006 and let me know if it hasn't already happened. Description: The film tells the story of two ordinary people who take part in a top-secret military hibernation experiment, only to awaken 500 years in the future in a dystopian society full of extremely dumb people. Advertising, commercialism, and cultural anti-intellectualism have run rampant and dysgenic pressure has resulted in a uniformly stupid society devoid of intellectual curiosity, social responsibility, and coherent notions of justice and human rights.

We all know that that flick became reality a few hundred years early...Dreamliner wrote:You guys need to watch the movie "Idiocracy" which is a comedy back in 2006 and let me know if it hasn't already happened. To produce original and creative television shows and movies you have to take risks. Hollywood isn't really interested in what's creative and original, they're interested in making money, so when they discover a formula that reduces costs, provides revenue, and reduces risk, they follow it until it doesn't work anymore. Add to this the fact that Hollywood executives don't have the slightest clue about what is creative or entertaining and they'll drown under the existing revenue model before they try swimming in new water. Hollywood has a history of rejecting creative innovation (but may be somewhat receptive to technical innovation that reduces costs).PBratton wrote:I'm wondering why Hollywood can't come up with anything original anymore...
