CHL % of population and conviction differential
I think I found in another thread that in the neighborhood of 450,000 - 500,000 active licenses last year and the population was just under 26,000,000 in TX. So that's roughly 2% of Texans have a CHL. The stats published on another thread say CHL accounts for .1884% of convictions...
I think that is pretty significant, statistically speaking. (assuming I have my figures correct)

Re: CHL % of population and conviction differential
And the active licenses are pretty easy to count, though the population isn't so easy considering those who left prayer rugs they find on the border ranches probably didn't fill out a Census thingy ...

If anyone reading this hasn't seen the stats spreadsheet in the first post of the sticky thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17975" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they should check it out. Amazing numbers up through 2009.

Re: CHL % of population and conviction differential
Actually amazing considering the percentage of Americans with mental health issues is far greater than the percent that violate their license. We have 1.1 % of the adult population that lives with schizophrenia. (diagnosed, pretty sure my X is not included ...
) 6.7 of the population have depression issues. When you run down the list of metal health issues by population in our country you realize a couple of things: One - Carry, all the time. Two - the two percent of Texans with permits might just be the only sane people walking around out there

Most people with mental illnesses, including schizophrenia do not commit crimes or hurt other people. Most people with depression are not violent nor do they commit crimes at any greater rate than rest of the population.

Just one small correction. Although there are 26 MM people in TX, more than half of those are minors and not eligible for a CHL. I calculated those numbers a while ago using adults only and the percentage of CHL's in TX is close to 4 %flechero wrote:I think I found in another thread that in the neighborhood of 450,000 - 500,000 active licenses last year and the population was just under 26,000,000 in TX. Re: CHL % of population and conviction differential
Didn't even think of the population as eligible for a CHL vs all people... makes the numbers even more impressive!
Re: CHL % of population and conviction differential
So let me see if I can work this out...
~4% of the adult population in Texas has their CHL. If that is one per household couple that means 8% of all adults directly support CHL. Now the average family has 2.5 kids, right? So those kids amount to another 10% of the population.
That means that a movie theater, restaurant , other family oriented business that bans CHL is actually alienating ~18% of the population of Texas. And and when you take into account that 51% of the US population does not pay taxes, which means they are probably either below the income level to take advantage of a family outing such as noted above that doubles the number so a 30.06 sign on a movie theater,or such, would causes a direct loss of ~36% of the targeted market customer base...
Hmmm...
OK, I admit I'm just having some fun here since I am in Marketing after all, but if these people would actually look at how much business they were turning away you would think they'd take the damn signs down in a heartbeat. On this subject this is why it is important that we not support businesses that do not support our right to protect ourselves and our families..
Folks, we have a voice stronger than any logic. It is called the almighty dollar and it is a very powerful weapon!
