Phyllis Diller has died...

Post by The Annoyed Man »

She was 95 years old. She died in her sleep with her family at her side. Gonna miss that old gal. She was really something, and smart as a whip.

My husband's a real "do it yourselfer".

I asked him to take out the garbage and he said, "Do it yourself".

She had a keen sense of humor and was always a bit of a Goof..........but, when she was younger, she was pretty HOT!

When I was a kid I was in front of the TV if I knew she was on it. She made me laugh so much my side and gut would cramp up. She proves you can be funny without all those fancy "french" words. RIP Phyllis, you will be missed!

I loved watching her in the movies she made with Bob Hope.

BTW, she was a conservative and a believing Christian.

She never did "blue humor" that a lot of comedians moved to starting in the 60's. She related the story that the first time she heard "The Aristocrats" joke, she fainted from the vulgarity (if you're not familiar with it, it's easy to google-fu it -- it's not for the faint-hearted, but it has a rather interesting contemporary history as an exercise in obscene storytelling).

One of my favorite jokes of hers: "I'm so old I have prescription underwear."

I remember some of her stuff from when I was younger. To me, the *true* comedians are those that can do it "clean" - ie - like her, Jeff Foxworthy, etc. You don't have to cuss to be funny.

BTW - for those wanting to google The Aristocrats....do NOT do it, it's beyond vulgar. :tiphat: I used to think Bob Sagget (America's Funniest Home Videos) was a good guy...apparently I'm quite naive.

"I went to the cosmetics counter where they sold beauty cream with a money back guarantee if not satisfied.
They took one look at me and gave me my money right away." :-)

Phyllis Diller supported the troops by accompanying Bob Hope on his visits to the troops during the Vietnam War.

She was also the victim of a professional jewel thief who stole a LARGE quantity of her jewels from her hotel room.
