In for the long haul

Post by Rosco46 »

I've been patiently waiting since I mailed my application in on 6/11 and have been in background review since 6/22. I was going to wait until my plastic showed up to purchase a new carry weapon so I could proudly present my license to the store clerk and whisk right through the purchase process, but last weekend I saw a deal at my local shop I couldn't pass up. So now my glock 17 has a little brother - a barely used gen 3 glock 26. However without my plastic I am limited to carrying around the house, which I have been doing over the past week. I was surprised how comfortable and concealable this little glock is when carried iwb with a galco king tuk. It is also a very comforting feeling to have this little guy on my hip and know that soon it shall go overwhere I go. 35 days in background review and counting - maybe next week will be my time ;-)

Congrats on the new gun. The wait seems like forever, but once you get it, the wait was worth it

sorry to hijack your thread but does having a CHL when purchasing a gun help speed the process? I purchased my first handgun last week and was in and out of the store in about 45 minute with nothing more than my DL. Just curious

If you have a CHL there is no phone call. You fill out the 4473, show your DL and CHL and you're done.

Now, there are some places that have a "Policy" that they still make the call, even if you have a CHL. These places are doing this as their "policy" and it is not required by law.

You can legally weed out these type of places by simply asking before purchase (when they hand you the 4473) if they make the call on CHL holders. If their reply is yes as it is their "Policy". You can inform them that it is your "Policy" to purchase elsewhere where this infringement on purchases is not required.

Why would you want to do this? Because the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) database is far from perfect and a call could easily end up with a false delay or denial even though you are legal to purchase.

They seem to be getting 95% or more processed within 60 days now. That's much better than 4 or 5 years ago when the majority took more than 60 days.
