Hurricane Isaac is potentially going to make landfall near NOLA. It brings back some memories of Katrina and Gustav/Ike.
This should serve as a reminder to us Texans to check our go-bags, bug-out bags, or w/e supplies we may need in a bad-situation. I realized I've got sufficient ammo for my main weapons, sufficient water, a copy of my personal DL/SS card etc, food, but I am lacking on supplies such as medical and some tools.
Also interested to see how this impacts the GOP convention.

I'm having trouble tracing some of those potential tracks... Is there a way for it to get up here to Dallas without hitting any major coastal areas? Because we could really use the rain.

I bet it hits closer to Mobile but I keep a go bag next to the door during the entire hurricane season. The bag goes into the car if any storm tracks come near me within the next 5 days.

I'm in central TX so my hurricane preps consist of making sure the cars are gassed up in case coast evacs make it hard to come by.

My 6.0L v8 only gets 11.5 MPG city :-(

Also, in terms of CHL I believe there is Texas Senate Bill (SB) 112 that forbids LEO from disarming CHL'ers during emergencies.

I bought 10 gallons in June so I'm good till December. City is not quite 2 miles across, only drove 1,000 miles all last year including taking niece to ban practice all summer and school all winter and going out to eat 4 nights a week at 4 different places, and to church (it's 2 miles out of town, so that's 4 miles round trip since I''m on the edge of town) ..., (used to drive 1,000 a week in it before retirement) and I got one of those 42-47 mpg Toyota not hybrid cars I'm keeping till they make something better.
I'd buy gas but waiting to see what price it will be after the election ...
I need to call Pasadena people and invite them up here though.

During Rita I was reminded that although Houston Upper coast gets gas from Louisiana/Houston, that Austin gets it from Corpus, so there was no "outage"" in Austin but it was a good time to raise prices on gas and gas cans. (Walmart in Marble falls got an 18-wheeler full of gas cans in; was sold out in 10 minutes.)

I love these models. You've got one ending up on the east coast of PA, three across northern OH, one swinging out west over Dallas. Best I can determine they have an acceptable accuracy of maybe a 100 miles from the current location. You'd think after years of using these things they'd have narrowed it down to 6-10 that have some semblance of being accurate forecasts.

Well, I'm in Lake Charles, La. at the present time, about to start my new job tomorrow. Yeah, I know, I sure do have some great timing, huh? Anyway, I'm going to stop at the gas station on the way out in the morning and top off my tank, JIC. My brother lives in the Houston area, so IF we are ordered to evac, I'll be westward bound...of course, so will half of the residents of this area, so I'm sure it will be a REAL ADVENTURE to say the least. The lady working the front desk of the hotel here told me folks from Nawlins were making reservations already, in case it comes through there...man, they can nail down "climate change" 50 years in the future, but they can't even tell your where a hurricane is going to be in two days...

Lived in NOLA for 30 yrs before having the sense to move to TX. Prepared for many storms that were going to be the big one that either fizzled out or took a right turn. This is what made Katrina so tragic - everyone knew it was going to make that right turn. Katrina is the only storm I left town for - just happened to be 3 months before it hit.

According to the news this storm is 800 miles wide. This storm won't hit New Orleans, it's going to hit several states. If it gets organized it has the potential to do severe damage along a significant part of the gulf coast.

Aaaaahhhhh. I was reading headlines last night saying that the first day of RNC events had been scrubbed, etc., so I was surprised to see this.

My wife and I can accommodate one couple in our guest room in DFW for a few days if anybody needs a place to evacuate to. Unfortunately, we cannot take pets (we'll be putting our own dog in the doggie hotel if this plays out)....but the PetSmart Pet Hotel is nearby and they are quite reasonable—cheaper than a hooman hotel. So if you need to bring a dog (or cat) along, accommodations are available.

If anybody needs to take advantage of this, PM me.
