Adios Texas

Post by Originalist »

Well after calling Texas home for the last almost 10 years, I finally get to PCS (for you non-military folks that means transfer). Come the end of the year I will be moving the family to Virginia (Newport News area). I will miss Texas as I will have to learn a complete new encyclopedia of carry laws. I will be back from time to time and, if everything works out as planned, I hope to be back in a LE capacity when my dance with the Air Force is complete. Good luck, God speed and as always, God Bless Texas.

This is not good-bye as I hope to still stop in from time to time...

First thank you for your service. :patriot:

Virginia has some beautiful country. I hope you and your family will have great health and a good time in Virginia.

They have Internet there (probably dial up) so you can keep stoping in and letting us know how things are going.

I live in chesterfield va (up by Richmond). Virginia is great on carry laws, the CC class is not expensive, and anyone who can own a gun can open a gun to most places. Where ca is lacking is in its use of firearms. It is not a state where you have to retreat, however unlike TX if a person is in your house you cannot just shoot them. You have to be in reasonable fear that you are in dangerous of serious injury or death.

So I will give you the example my instructor gave us. You are upstairs ith your children and you hear a ruckus downstairs. You can call out and say "get out! I have a gun and I am calling the cops". If they come after you deadly force can be used. You can go down the stair and tell them at gunpoint to get out or lay down on the floor and dont move that you are calling the cops. However you cannot just shoot them for being in your house. Stupid I know. But that is how things go here. You can't shoot them for stealing your tv.
