Dallas police need help to solve a violent gas station robbery that left one man injured.

The crime happened shortly after midnight on August 31, at a 7-Eleven at the corner of Harry Hines Boulevard and Walnut Hill Lane.

Surveillance video shows a man gassing up his car at a pump when a man and a woman approach him.

Police say the male suspect pistol-whipped the man on the back of his head, then helped the female suspect rifle through the victim's pockets as he lay on the ground.
watch the video. Its the classic pincer attack. Woman comes from one side distracting asking questions while her accomplice comes up behind the guy and grabs him. This is why I usually have my car door open on one side (natural wall) and the gas pump on the other side of me, making a small barrier, hopefully giving me an extra second to draw and fire. Somebody send this guy some CHL class information!

People gotta learn to be at home long BEFORE midnight and have a much greater chance of avoiding things like this.

EDIT: My above statement assumes that he was not out that late due to his employment. Still.......if I worked those hours, I would be sure to get my gasoline in the daytime.

Sometimes when we're visiting the inlaws a little bit outta town we're there until 11-12 and then head home. Sometimes we've just got to stop for gas though. It happens. Not everyone is up to no good just because they're out after midnight. Don't always have time to stop before hand (screaming kids, running late, etc). I'm not going to limit my life based on fear. We're not going to call it a night early just because something "might" happen at a gas station. Situational awareness is key late at night. Still I agree, if you can avoid it, avoid filling up late at night.

This is why I carry. I hope I am aware of my surroundings enough to notice the large black guy circling around behind me. At that point my focus would shift away from the lady and onto what looks like a bigger threat. Hopefully with the open door to my back for some protection from a rear assault. Or even jump in the car and lock the door. I guess you only have options if you are aware enough to gain that split second advantage.

Not speaking to anyone in particular...I wish dealing with this was as simple as drawing your gun, but the attack was done in a professional manor. With the distraction, an attack from behind it is difficult to stop. I don't think it's all that wise to draw your weapon after the BG already has a gun to the back of your head.

Helpful knowledge here would be to understand the criminal method, pre-assault cues, verbal skills, body movement that aids in observation, and gun disarms.

ShivWorks’ Practical Unarmed Combat is a good primer for dealing with these sorts of attacks. With that knowledge you may be able to head off the attack. Israeli Gun disarms would work well here too video
