On a side note to this "growing up too fast" situation with daughters,
in the Hispanic community there is the "quinciniera" <spelling?> celebration where 15 year old Hispanic
girls have a giant party. Am I wrong in assuming that this celebration gives 15 year old Hispanic girls
the idea that it's time to speed things up on their dating habits? This doesn't seem like a good thing.

I wasn't "blaming" the father for the girl's behavior. I was simply expressing that I did not regard it as a good example.

Kids are going to do what they do. You have kids do bad things that come from good parents and good homes, and you have kids that turn out great that grew up in bad circumstances. Ultimately, kids is responsible for their own choices.

I think you are confusing stories. SIA's story had the unmarried parents, not the young girl that drove to Nashville.

I am far from an expert, but a Quinceañera is more a religious celebration than a party to speed up dating. Similar to a Bat Mitzvah for a Jewish girl.

Yes, I was discussing the SIA story with the "wild child" and the shack-up couple. I wasn't confused at all.

As a side note, the mother was in a live-in arrangement with a man who had a much younger daughter, and owned the Flower Mound
house (a nice one). The boyfriend wanted his stepdaughter to move out as soon as she hit 18 since he didn't want her bad behavior
to rub off on his daughter. The mother of the wild child said "no way I'm making her move out." That was the end of the relationship.

What religion is that? I knew several Roman Catholic girls when I was growing up and I don't remember the Italians having that ceremony. I don't think the Irish did either.

As Bronco78 stated, it is a "cultural thing". I also know many Catholic women with Italian and Irish heritages who did not have this celebration.

In my opinion, the Quinceañera is a celebration of the change of a girl into a woman and has nothing to do with "speeding up their dating habits".

BTW, the young girl in the original story is home safe and sound. They are close friends.
