Another road rager shot and killed

Post by smoothoperator »

The Taylor man’s troubles started at 6:30 Wednesday evening. Police say Myers was traveling northbound on Telegraph. As he turned eastbound onto Northline, a bicyclist ignored a “Do Not Cross” signal and drove into him.

Witnesses say the bike rider got up from the ground and started punching Myers through his open window. It ended when Myers pulled out a gun and shot the bicyclist in the chest.
“I don’t blame him,” said Michelle Noffsinger, who witnessed it all. “It was self defense."

She and other witnesses told police that Myers only took out a gun after the bicyclist flew at him in a rage and punched him repeatedly.

Oh my goodness. "Just seconds ago" and "Live". Couldn't they find something better that was "urgent" for us to know?

Also, the guy probably wasn't aware he was being recorded, but if he did, he probably shouldn't have walk out of jail with a cigarette in his mouth (public perception and all that).

Help my memory. The first self defense case after Texas passed the CHL law was a case where the motorist was being punched repeatedly in the head by a road rager.

Anyone remember his name?

In one paragraph they say “A grand jury Wednesday cleared the first Texan to use his legally concealed handgun in a fatal shooting” then they say “Gordon Reid Hale III, 42, of Grand Prairie, "could have faced murder charges” then they say “It was the first time since Texans were allowed to legally carry concealed handguns that a permit holder had been charged with murder for using the weapon.”. :headscratch
God Bless America, and please hurry.

That boy was a pretty good sized fella, and had an impressive set of shoulders on him. Got to wonder about the decision making abilities of somebody who would start punching him. The guy on the bike must have been a pretty good physical specimen himself.
Also, that was a darn nice bicycle for a "homeless" person. Somehow this just doesn't add up.
Can't say I'm impressed with the reporter. She doesn't seem to have much of a grasp of what is going on. She seemed to me to be trying to find some anti-gun slant with her question about why he didn't drive away. The lawyer just explained that his client was being pushed into the car, ergo onto the center console and away from the shift and steering wheel, yet she asked how he was able to get the gun from the center console but couldn't drive. Not surprised such a sharp investigator missed the other questions.

Full disclosure. I work for a newspaper. This is not media bashing. I'm sorely disappointed in the performance of a colleague.

While it is more probable that the bike is stolen, it is also likely that friends or family could have bought him the bike. Some people choose to be homeless, but that doesn't mean they don't have a good support group.

If he is homeless, I am surprised that someone didn't steal his bike.
