So he was applying to become a police officer. He was 22 years old and had attended West Point.

What about the 5 years in the military he was obligated to serve?

:iagree: Maybe he was on the team, but he didn't play football for them either.
Dixon used the name Marcus McInerney while at West Point, but did not play any games, according to the Connecticut Post. He reportedly opted out of the football program last year so that he could focus on academics.

People who leave West Point (or any of the service academies) were always obligated to serve their time commitment as enlisted personnel. Unless this is another of the ordinary duties in life that have succumbed to liberal political correctness.

After separtion from the the USMA, it appears that the requirement to serve out only applies to persons who have finished the first two years.

Oh, that's right. When you said it, I was reminded of someone I knew in the 70's faced with the decision after two years whether to start with the 3rd year.

I could be wrong, but I think cadets from West Point do not enlist. The get a commission.

West Point graduates get commissioned as officers when they graduate.

That's what I always think when I hear about someone killed while cleaning a gun, but this case might just be stupidity.

To me this would be a more plausible conclusion if he hadn't done it in front of two witnesses.

Does anyone know if a year at USMAPS creates any obligation for civilian students?

I can't find anything on their website, but based on the two year USMA policy, I would not that civilians would have any obligation.
