There is no way you should ever show your ID and a SS# to anyone. I don't even carry a SS card. Everyone makes the assumption they are safe because it's a bank. NOT!
Yes that is correct.. Mine is locked up and safe.
sorta off topic. Is it correct you only get a total of 3 copies of your SS.? As in, they will only reprint it 3 times.

I was recently elected as VP/treasurer of a local ham radio club, and had to go to the bank to sign all the documents so that I can take care of the club's money. The assistant manager didn't blink at the CHL. Of course, in that small town, I'd bet mine wasn't the first CHL she had seen being used as ID. :tiphat: And that bank doesn't post 30.06, either.
Why not post a 30.06 though??

I had to ask my fellow neighbor cop on a theater near me that does not have any postings about CHL. Not an 30.06 or (can't remember the title of the sign) the one saying if you carry without permit it could be $$$ and jail time. Its annoying trying to find it and figure out what their policy is.

I thought up of a scenario if the teller would say something to the supervisor or bring attention to the CHL and think I am carrying and i'll have that mess to deal with. Has anyone else thought of something like this happening?
My bank does not require 2 forms of ID when cashing a check. They just ask for DL and ask me to swipe my bank card and enter the pin on the machine at the cashier.

For withdrawing money my bank wants photo ID and swipe my ATM card and punch in my PIN number.

I ask the teller which name I had the account under as I dig through my wallet muttering different names as if I was reading them off other IDs.

(Based on a true story. I did this when asked for ID when using a credit card. I'll never forget the look on the cashier's face.)

My bank has been robbed so many times they keep the front door locked and a uniformed HPD unlocks the door.
Fortunately today they only asked for one form of ID and I used my drivers license.

A bank at which I recently closed my account wanted two photo IDs when I first opened the account. I only had two photo IDs, so I showed both TDL and CHL. I asked the bank president who was helping me if that was and issue, and she said, "heck no. Everybody should have one of these" (referring to the CHL) and grinned.

At the Bank of America, Webb-Royal Shopping Center, Dallas, 75229, I was asked for two photo IDs. Gave the nice young lady my CHL and DL.

Apparently, somehow she summoned a suit who came from an adjoining office to assist me. The suit and I were both outside the dividing glass partition. If the suit is to be beleved, he was responding to a teller request and that there wasn't any problem.

He professed knowledge of the background checks required of CHL and mentioned that he wished all the customers were so screened. My transactions were speedy. I was escorted to the door and even had the door held open for me.

Why bother trying to figure it out? If they don't post a sign that meets or exceeds 30.06 standards, they obviously don't care enough about their policy to post the sign, so I don't care about their policy to ask.

Dunno, its possible that someone even counted the chained down ball point pens after I left the bldg.

EDIT: Just gotta mention that when my bride, number 1 son, and crew went to the Base Movie theatre and Bowling Alley at Osan AB, we had to pass through 2 levels of Base Security. At the second level, we had to leave photo ID and Passport. Both to be picked up when we departed the Base.

A good time was had by all. I was processed out last at Base Security when we left. The ROC Guard steped back from the counter, touched his sidearm and presented a parade ground worthy salute. It was returned as best as I could.

In the car, kiddo laughed. Said that it was likely that this was the first incidence that OSAN Base Security had delt with a CHL. Remarked that in that cultural mind set, it might be the equal of permission to drive a tank.

Because my gf was becoming paranoid about it and that something would happen..She has not taken the class, so for her to get over it I asked my neighbor. I knew I could carry, but I was getting tired of the conversation that kept coming up each time I went to the theater.

I have used my CHL once or twice...when we got our passports a couple of years ago (yeh, we waited along time to get them) we also got passport cards, mostly for the kids, so they would have a second form of ID, since we homeschool they don't have them and neither of them had DL's at the time so it was a really good idea, they've some in real handy as the kids have hit their later teen years. I haven't really used it except when we went on our cruise, but it could probably be use in this case instead of the CHL.

is not an ID and while some banks will accept that, for certain transactions, you need 2 governmental photo IDs
So how to people without a CHL or passport manage those transactions? What other forms of ID can be issued besides drivers license?
You do not need to have two ID's to cash a check. I challenged this once when I cashed a check my renter gave me. There is no legal requirement to have two photo ID's for a transaction. They said I could use a credit card. "rlol" I said only if they let me have a credit card number from one of them. They tried to give me grief but when I pointed out that their "policy" is not posted nor printed on the check, a legal banking instrument that regulations require to be honored. I informed the manager I would be happy to report the failure to honor the check to the authorities. They then wanted a right thumb print. It was very obviuos I was wearing compression gloves on both hands for a dibilitating medical condition so I offered a nose print. They were not amused but I got my money and insisted the authenticate the bills with their anti-counterfiet pen. They were not happy but I was smiling as I left.

Love it
