City Looks to Twitter for Answer to Gun Problem
The best submitted ideas will be debated at an Oct. 11 panel discussion
Sunday, Sep 30, 2012 | Updated 11:50 AM CDT
The City of Chicago is asking residents with ideas on how to get illegal guns off the streets to share their thoughts — in 140 characters or fewer on Twitter.

The initiative is part of Chicago Ideas Week, an annual forum for innovators, artists, scientists and others to share ideas and inspire action.
Those who think they know how to cut off the flow of illegal guns into Chicago are being asked to tweet them with the hashtag (hash)whatifchicago.
For one thing, I would like to know why exactly it is that artists are experts about how to manage gun violence.

Next, the answer to getting illegal guns off the streets is REALLY easy: LEGALIZE them!

Man, look dude... it's all about, like... perception. How you see crime dude, how you define it... See, you see laws as words, I see it as a canvas to paint a brighter future man. You can change the future with a pen, I can change it with a brush... or a can of spray paint and some street signs.

:iagree:
I had two immediate suggestions when I heard the story.

1. Obey the US Constitution and legalize personal firearms. Abracadabra! No more illegal guns flowing into the city.

2. Build a sturdy wall around the city. Pump in water from Lake Michigan to a depth of 50 feet. Let soak one week then drain. Repeat as needed.
When in doubt
Vote them out!

This is funny.
the hashtag for that is #WhatifChicago

#WhatifChicago followed President Teddy Roosevelt's recommendation that the U.S. (Chicago) adopt the Swiss system http://t.co/sOJDTB0F" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
RT @jfern1007: How do you curb crime and violence in # Chicago? Deploy #Robocop. #whatifchicago

#whatifchicago got a big magnet that could make all the guns stick to it?

A simple solution - take all the guns confiscated by the chicago PD and give them out to any Chicagoan who can pass a background check and a shooting proficiency exam. Let nature take it course.

One other suggestion, fire any government employee who sits around all day reading twitter.

I'd like to solicit comments from the forum on the following scenario:

1. Say Illinois decides to grant their citizens freedom and let their citizens have CHL's.
2. The City of Chicago cooperates with Illinois new CHL law and allows gun store and gun ranges in the city limits.
3. Many of Illinois' good citizens jump on the bandwagon, get their CHL's, buy their handguns, then worry about carry rigs. :-)

Given that many of the murders in Chicago are committed by gang members against other gang members,
would the murder rate in Chicago actually be reduced?

Does anyone think that armed middle class CHL's are going to meet and kill enough gang members to decrease the murder rate?

TIA / SIA

I don't think its a matter of armed CHLs defeating gang members. I think it doesn't even have to be a matter of CHLers. Simply an armed citizenry, in general, removing the freedom of the bad guys to operate within an environment where they are the only ones armed. I think it would REDUCE the gun-related violence to smaller areas of the city. And that is a problem in any major city that has no easy "cure". But at least the citizenry wouldn't have to feel like they were at the mercy of armed thugs.

I doubt they will do anything based on the ideas on twitter. Most suggestions are to allow concealed carry and get rid of the mayor and liberal democrats in government.
