Motorcycle carry

Alright I need to ask, how do you carry when riding on you motorcycle. I find that my jacket is quite tight and tailored to fit so it makes owb or iwb hard so do you carry with a shoulder rig or carry off person in example tank bag or saddle bags. Anybody with any input please speak up would love to hear suggestions. Please don't say backpack as I just don't feel like that would be very handy at all:).

I pocket carry in my jacket when I ride, but I also figure acceleration is a better solution to most threats.

Yeah I agree with the acceleration comment, but there are other times when you are more vulnerable than when in a car ex. Stop light, filling up at the gas station, heck even in parking lots at stores when you are trying to put your gear on. So now that brings up another question do you wear gloves(I have a summer pair and a winter pair which will not fit in the trigger area) and if so do you practice shooting with them. Where I shoot and I guess most places (safety issues) frown on the practicing of drawing your weapon. Heck put your helmet on and then see how awkward it is to get a sight line at least for me it felt kinda off.

I carry when I ride, and keep it the same place as when I'm not riding. I do it, not in anticipation of having to use it while riding, but so I have it handy when I get off the bike.

I don't think there's any way I could properly shoot a weapon while the bike was in motion, and probably not even while stopped.

I carry OWB at 3:30 & still cover w/ my same vest I wear all the time.
Dont know what you ride but if not a street rocket I have never seen a conceal problem.

Most days I ride Im on a a sport bike, some days a standard. My Dragging jeans are sized to fit a med size pistol in a supertuck. On days Im wearing regular jeans i carry OWB and a polo untucked... for the ride, I fold the shirt tail under the holster bottom... yes, many may guess at what is partway peaking under my jacket, but it's still covered.
If Im wearing my leathers, then the carry gun can fit inside the jacket in a pocket, but reality is draw would be measured by calendar.. so i bag carry.

I carry IWB or in my vest pocket (made for CCW) most of the time. There are times, during the winter mostly, that I will carry OWB as my jacket will cover it.

As for gloves, I wear the mechanics type gloves which are pretty thin and tight so accessing my weapon is not a problem. Now if its under say 35 degrees I may have a problem cause I wear lambskin with thinsulate.

The helmet I wear is a 1/2 helmet so line of site is not a problem. Even in the winter when again under about 35, I wear a 3/4 with a face shield it is not much of a problem.

Now, saying all of that, I ride either a cruiser type (Softail Standard) or a touring type (Ultra Classic). Carry options may be different on a road rocket.

Tank bag. I didn't have any illusions of being able to use it while riding. It was to have with me when I reached my destination. I rode a Hayabusa for 8 years so acceleration was my friend. That thing could almost out run a bullet.

Alas, I wasn't riding as much as I used to, so I sold it and used part of the money to fund an M&P15-22 for my daughter, my M4, and then my M2 3-gun.

I only bag carry on the bike when forced to I don’t want to be separated from it if I go down, nor do i want to hassle with transferring from bag to carry when I get to where ever I’m going.
My consideration into this leads me to a like mind set.. use while riding is not likely needed… but that point of transition from rider to pedestrian, in say a parking lot.. is when we are most vulnerable, or in a road rage deal on the road or after an accident…… Both of those situations would be better served with the gun on my person, so I can move to cover or better defensive position to call 911 and defend the threat if needed.

Yes I ride a sport bike and I wear leather gear so my jacket sits right at my belt line standing and is fairly snug so maybe will try pocket carry to see if I like it, heck it might even give me a reason to buy a small bug gun. Sorry if I implied that I would be shooting while riding , as this is not the movies I also don't think it would be a good idea. Most threatening situations in my mind would be when the bike is stopped or off. In which case dismounting the bike would be a must to create time and space to get weapon in hand. Cdub, that is what I do now I carry my g19 in one of the zippered compartments, as when I get somewhere the bag goes with me. I was just seeing if had come up with any ingenious ideas that did not have as many layers to go through. So right now it is pocket or bag, had the wife look while i sat on the bike on the center stand and owb is out as half of the holster sticks out. Iwb same might have to get a different style jacket and see.

My jacket is an Olympia Motorsports Airglide, and perhaps it's cut a little longer than yours. I carry IWB at 3:30, or occasionally in a shoulder holster.

When I am in VA: Semi Open Carry. OWB Holster with just the edge of my jacket over the top of the butt of the gun.

When I am in TX: Same place as always. IWB 6:00.

I shoot right handed, so unless I want to screw down the cruise control it is going to be vary hard be effective against a threat while moving. I would say maneuverability is more my friend than acceleration. Last thing I need is someone chasing me, angry, and traveling at a high rate of speed.

Yep, unless a burst of acceleration would give you enough of a gap to then be able to stop and prepare a welcome.

I generally don't carry when I'm riding. I usually ride to ride, not to run errands and visit public places. I stop for gas, sometimes for a bit to eat. If I'm robbed while riding, they can have it... the bike, cash, whatever. It's usually only me on the bike, so I'm not worried about family getting involved. Honestly, I find that I pay a bit more attention to my surroundings when I'm not carrying. It's a good reminder that I should not be as casual about my surroundings when I do carry. That I rely on having a gun more than I should and that my situational awareness can always be improved.

That said, if I'm taking a long trip I'll pack my carry gun in the tank bag and carry the tank bag with me when I'm off the bike. There's no way I would try to use a gun while on a moving motorcycle, but I'd like to have it with me if I'm away from home for a few days, staying in hotels and such.

If I did feel the need to carry on-body while riding, I'd go with a shoulder rig or SOB (SOB works well in the cooler weather when I use a 3/4 length jacket.

I have only carried on my Suzuki 1400 Intruder a couple of time, usually I ride to work and since I can’t carry there and don’t have a way to secure my saddlebags in a way that a knife won’t defeat, I leave it at home. The times I have carried on the bike, I wear a “tall” tee shirt and carry IWB. I was a bit paranoid of the wind blowing the shirt up, but tucking the shirt into the belt clips worked well.

I’ve done this with and without a waist length jacket. Yeah, looks dorky having a tee shirt longer than the jacket, but I have never been one for good fashion sense and now that I carry, functionality trumps style.
