as far as batteries and things like that I think the lithium content is either very low or so locked up it can't be used, but hey never put anything past someone that really wants a drug

A fake maybe? I've had a few that were not so good.... Mostly in Mexico.
Never had a problem in Asia or Europe. One bad one in Canada.

That is what I was thinking. My first Cuban cigar was a Romeo y Julietta from Cuba via the Caymen islands. I had another in Mexico and like you, I didn't think it was so great. Then when I was over in Latvia I found them again....greatness.

The above mentioned "Italian" cigars are very inexpensive - relative to hand rolled cigars. That's to say they're considered low end by the more discriminating cigar smoker.

I've smoked a number of Cuban cigars and find I prefer Nicaraguan cigars such as Padrons or Honduran or Dominican Republic. The days of great Cuban cigars is at (mostly) an end. There's such a high demand for the once great Cuban cigars that the makers are rushing them out the door before the tobacco is properly aged. Quality control is no longer in play... Are all Cuban cigars inferior? No, there are a few being produced that are still good quality smokes, but their once vaunted place in the cigar world is generally over for the more knowledgable...

As for the Parodi's and their ilk, they aren't nearly as strong as many high quality hand rolled cigars on the market. Strong cigars are referred to as "full-bodied" by the cognoscenti.

If you want to smoke a great non-Cuban cigar go into a cigar store humidor and if you don't know what to buy ask the proprietor for his advice. Generally speaking, you'll pay plus $5.00 for a decent cigar and more for a great one.

While that may indeed be true, the thread was specific to Italian Cigars, and the ones I mentioned are of that ilk.

Padron cigars......YUM YUM YUM!! When I first started smoking cigars it was a Padron 1964 Anniversario Maduro or nothing...I've since broadened my spectrum a bit since then.

I don't believe I have ever had a true Italian cigar, as in a puro (to say that the filler, binder and wrapper came from Italy). I have had the CAO Italia and it was enjoyable, the filler of the Italia is Italian grown from what I know.

As far as Cuban cigars go, my personal favorite is the Monte Cristo #2, followed by the Bolivar Belicoso Finos and the Bolivar Petite Coronas...the Partagas Series D is quite nice too. You have to be wary of where you purchase though as counterfeits abound.

If any of y'all are in the DFW area and enjoy a fine cigar, drop me a line. Every Tuesday evening a few buddies and I partake of cigars and a glass of Scotch or two in the Grapevine area, sometimes at a local establishment of choice or my patio / cigar shack.
