Run4Justice 5K

Post by The Annoyed Man »

Moderators, if this should be in a different forum, please feel free to move it.

I am entered in a 5K fundraising event on 10/27/2012 at Meadowmere Park on Grapevine Lake in Southlake. The event is called "Run4Justice," and it is a fundraiser for International Justice Mission (IJM). IJM rescues children who are in literal slavery to sex trafficking, primarily in Cambodia, but in other countries as well. They do amazing work. Their field workers are mostly former LEO and attorneys/prosecutors, and they work very closely with the host government to locate and identify brothels where these children are held in slavery, and then they raid them along with local law-enforcement and shut them down. The children are taken to safe havens where they are fed, clothed, treated for disease and given extensive counseling, and educated.

I started training for this thing about a month ago. I will likely not be able to run the entire distance, but I will finish it. I am soliciting donations to aid me in this fundraising effort. If you feel like this is something that you might want to participate in, please following the link below:

Thank you, and God bless you.

I finished the 5K this morning.....barely. I am layin' up on the couch right now, and my knees are alternating between aching and throbbing.....but I'm still alive, and I was able to raise a small amount of money for the cause. Collectively, our church beat last year's total fundraising by $37,000 and was able to hand International Justice Mission a check for just a tick shy of $170,000 this morning—all raised by members and friends participating in this morning's event.

God be praised.

Good job TAM.

Spend 20 minutes in the tub with cold water and 5 lbs of ice. It really works wonders and you will feel great afterwards and no sore knees. I plan to start running again in about 4-5 weeks & just may check out next years Run4Justice. I gotta tellya though, I will embarrass you.... I run like an animal....a penguin!

If you are going to continue to run, you might consider this highly effective treatment for knee pain. Take some of the small dixie paper cups, bathroom size is about 2-3oz. IIRC and fill them about 3/4 full of water. Freeze them solid and them after running take one and peel the paper until the ice is exposed like the old ice cream wrappers. use them them to ice your knees rubbing the ice around the knee and adjacent areas. The paper helps keeps your hands a reasonable temp and the ice in direct contact with the skin works much faster. You will need a towel under your knee to catch the runoff. I think you will find that your knees will recover from your daily run much faster.

Congrats to your church and for your efforts.

You are my hero! I know you have had horrid back issues and have been working hard at getting more fit. I am so proud of you for finishing! Pat on the back and a whoop from afar! :tiphat:
