Using the wait "effectively"...?

Post by TheYoungGuy »

CHL COURSE - 3/18
PACKET MAILED - 3/20
PIN RECEIVED - 3/29
"APP. PROCESSING" - 3/29

------------------------------------------------------

So, in light of the provided time-table, I thought I would ask what you all suggest I do with my time. I will take any preperation tips (details and all) you can provide. For what it's worth, my gun, holster, and ammuntion of choice are all in-hand already. I leave the DPS window up on my computer up at all times; refreshing it whenever I'm nearby. The wait is eating away at me. Whoever said "throw the PIN into the trash", by the way, is a genius. Too bad I got that tip too late.

Thanks for the ideas, folks.

I've worn one of my holsters out (empty) a couple of times to get used to it and be aware of any issues with fit/printing/exposure that may come up. I've worn it around the house and at dinner to see if anyone notices (I live in a huge house with 25 other folks), I've read that a lot of people wore theirs around the house in their street clothes to get used to them, so that's probably a good idea.

You have all your gear in hand so that is a HUGE STEP. NcongrueNT is right on carry at the house. Wear your carry rig & use all your clothes. Learn how you want to cover. Let the wife & family hug, kids set in lap,...My grandchildren never pay it any attention anymore. The 2 youngest really do not remember Papa w/ out a pistol on. Only one has ever asked why.
Spend time at the range.
Unload, check to make sure it is unloaded, then make sure it is empty.
Draw & DRY FIRE at the house. Practice reloads.
Sit in a chair & get to it while "driving"
One hand access. Can you get to it if you are fighting, pushing, or hurt w/ one hand. This is strong & weak hand. Aim & dry fire w/ weak hand.
Excellent time to learn to reload w/ only one hand.
Empty gun move & shoot.
Find your "Safe Room" & do family drills for home invasion.
Lay in bed & get to it. Can you put your hand on it w/ out looking when your feet hit the floor.
Read the board here.
Nearly any drill you read about you can simulate at home.
Access & presentation in front of a mirror to watch technique.
All I can think of.
Need to get gone.
The time will pass.
