Security Guard giving me the evil eye

Post by Matt78665 »

Yesterday in Beaumont Tx I was going into the Teachers Credit Union near Parkdale Mall. I have never been there before, but had to close out a deceased relatives account. My brother was with me. He noticed and pointed at the gun buster sign near the door as we walked in. Just inside the door was the armed security guard who also saw my bother pointing at the sign. I explained to my brother quickly that the sign do not prevent me from legally carrying in Texas. As we were seated to speak with the customer service rep, the guard made several passes by me. I assume he was looking to see if I was printing. He never said a word, but I knew that our sign discussion had raised his awareness. Carry On!!!!!!! :txflag: :patriot:

What did the "gun buster" sign say? Did it mention 30.06 at all? I am new and have not received my plastic yet so am curious.
Armed not dangerous but potentially lethal.

Most gun buster signs are just a gun with a slash through it, like the No Smoking Signs.
Some say "No Guns"
But remember, if it does not have the precise wording, in English and Spanish, and the size and contrasting colors, then it does not count and you can walk on by (as long as it is not in the few locations where you cannot carry anyway)

"Mentioning it" isn't enough. 30.06 is VERY explicit about the signage, lettering, and languages required. A "gunbusters" sign has nothing to do with 30.06. In fact, now that I think of it, I've never seen the two together (not saying it doesn't exist, just not likely)
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

So, do you memorize the statute word-for-word, in english and spanish and measure the letters posted? I trained myself to basically look for "30.06" and "51%" that "looks like" the statutes. I figured, any more than that was not worth the fight in most situations. I understand about the gun-buster but how do you quickly distinguish between a legitimate 30.06 and an errant one?

Not trying to start an argument or anything.

Trying to remember where I saw that. Had the 30.06 perfectly correct but between the English and Spanish versions was a gun buster sign. Some medical facility.

There are some simple and fast ways to determine whether it is compliant or not.

  1. Does the language reference Subchapter H 411, or 4414 (29ee)? Current law requires the sign to reference Subchapter H, 411. If it references anything different, the sign is not compliant:

YES YOU CAN CARRY - Old, incorrect verbiage (4413)
    Image

NO YOU CANNOT CARRY - Current correct wording (411)
    Image
  2. Are the letters 72 points (about 1" tall) on a contrasting background?
Those are the two hints I look for right away. All of this is posted here: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=34571#p407475" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Finally, if you have an Android or iOS powered cellphone, there is a CHL app created by a member of this forum which gives you the ability to look up the correct wording right then and there. To anybody watching, you're just looking up an address or something in your phone.

Thanks. I'll download it. :thumbs2: At this point in my comfort level, I don't think I could walk past the errant sign without sweating. I guess it depends on where I was going and whether I felt being disarmed was more a risk than being armed. Guess its a process huh.

No argument if you say that's close enough for you. For me, it's only an argument if somebody says that should be close enough for everyone.

The language and placement of the sign notwithstanding, I try not to look furtive when carrying my piece - indoors or out. :smilelol5:
