OK to Carry in the TX DPS Office?
I think I know the answer to this, but it never helps to ask a bunch of pros, since I'm still relatively new.
It's OK to carry in the TX Driver's License office while I'm renewing, isn't it? I'm heading down later today, and I don't want to push my luck.
Again, thanks to all for helping this newbie answer a question that has probably been asked (and answered) 1000 times!

Be very careful its not being used for early voting which starts today. That would be a big NO NO.

Driver's License offices are usually crowded enough without squeezing voting machines in there
but that's a good warning in general this time of year.

Just don't try to use your CHL as an ID. I lost my license a couple of years ago and went to get a replacement. The lady told me it wasn't a valid ID but my 40+ year old SS Card with no picture on it was no problem!
Yes the Marines are a Department of the Navy.....The Mens Department....
CHL since 7/11/11

I believe that. I lost my DL a couple of years ago.papajohn1964 wrote:Just don't try to use your CHL as an ID. I lost my license a couple of years ago and went to get a replacement. The lady told me it wasn't a valid ID but my 40+ year old SS Card with no picture on it was no problem!
They wouldn't accept my CHL as proper ID - even though they are the same DPS that issued it to me! But, they took my Sam's Club card, issued by Walmart.

TX Driver's License office in my city ... is in a County Courthouse Annex building on the wrong side of the metal detector ... so not in this one.

It makes no sense, but then again it's our government "helping" us. They have the capability to pull up your DL info on their computer screen right there, but will not do it...instead they require that you have physical possession of your current license or an expired license within the last 24 months. Sort of a catch-22 deal...if you hadn't lost it, you wouldn't be there trying to get it replaced. You face the same thing if you go to a regional DMV office to get a duplicate title...the only ID they accept for a Texas resident is a Texas DL or Texas ID card or current US passport. If you're from another country, they will take a number of ID's such as green cards, temporary work permits, refugee card, PAROLE document, a valid OR EXPIRED foreign passport (yours has to be current). They will accept the CHL as a supporting document but not as primary ID..even though it has the same ID info as the DL. I was trying to get a duplicate title last month after accidentally running the original thru the washing machine...I had what was left of it taped together on a sheet of paper...you could still see the name and title number...I had photo copies of the front and back of the original title showing it was properly assigned to me when I took it in trade, sales invoice, copy of the current registration (on his trade in and his new truck), and all kinds of supporting documents as listed by the DMV. The man trading it in did not have a valid DL within the last 2 years. They refused to issue a copy of the title even though they had gladly just issued him a new title on his new truck with no ID requirements at all. As long as they are collecting hundreds of dollars in sales tax and license plate fees, they don't care about ID...but made it impossible for him to get a copy of his own title even though they could look at it on their on records and had physical proof right in front of them. After arguing with them and the DMV & DPS office in Austin for 2 weeks, I talked to the County Judge and he looked at all the papers and said this is just ridiculous and issued a court order requiring the DMV to issue me a new title. Took it back to the DMV office and they just said "oh, OK" and took care of it.KarrMar wrote:Thats incredibleCrossfire wrote:I believe that.
